Before this weekend Grant Fisher was one of my favorite runners. Not anymore. Any real athlete would go for the win instead of purposely losing for the 100k. He is literally the world record holder in the event indoors. No reason to run for third. Shameful.

Are you serious? This format is a game (actually the whole sport is a game) designed to bring something new to the sport. Jury out on GST’s success but not on Grant’s game. Cowardly? Shameful? Rojo made the same ridiculous claim & it just shows how little you both understand what the GST is all about. & Grant just showed he might have the wheels to challenge Jakob at the 5K in Tokyo.

This is probably bait but he needed 3rd place and he got 3rd. Don't tell me you actually cared about the guy in first soloing a 7:57 or whatever. He proved himself on day1 and cashed in on day 3 lmao.
I agree that the incentive to not go for the win but and rather safely get third is kind of dumb, but you can't really blame Fisher for that. He was just doing what he needed to do to get 100k, which any reasonable human would do.
I was completely bored by that race but don’t really blame Grant. If just one other runner had gone with the leaders, he would have had no choice. I understand Grant’s point of view fine. Why didn’t Teare or Kwemoi go? They are capable of running that fast
Even though I hated the race. Wait back up it's more than just the race...the format, the number of competitors, the location. The one thing I didn't mind was Grant being fit and smart enough to walk away with $100,000 with times American High School boys could EASILY run in both the 3000 and 5000m 🤣😂🤣 omg my side is hurting from laughing.
Hopefully you are as disgusted with Centro’s cowardly tactics to win gold in the 1500. Neither race is going to bring fans to a sport that already is starved for fans. Nobody wants to watch this bullsh&$ AND they are doing this in super shoes???!!
I think GST works better for the sprints than distance races. Because distance running is often tactical anyway, we will be seeing more of these kinds of races in GST.

His tactics were smart, not cowardly. He doesn't care about "winning the Kingston 3000m" against this group of guys. He wanted to $100,000. That is logical.
If you want to see people race each other for the win, go watch a real championship.

Teare or kwemoi figured they couldn’t win so no point to risk it in the heat. The they were going for the $30k spot not the $100k.

there are approximately zero casual/potential fans that care about super shoes or have any realistic frame of reference for the times they were running vs. a fast race.

So he lost one fan and gained thousands - maybe a hundred thousand?

How exactly did they figure that out? Sure, once the gap was too big, maybe. But if they went out with Geb from the start, Teare and Jacobs could finish first and potentially win the whole thing. Totally don't fault Fisher, but pretty lame to see this from Teare. Then again, he's not ever really competing for global medals, as he barely makes US teams, so I guess we shouldn't expect much from him.

Grant has been very clear he wants to win a world title. His indoor performances indicate he has the aerobic fitness, but he's not demonstrated the kick to win a world title, especially against Jakob in the 5k. I have 0 issue with Grant going into this weekend with the MO that he was going to do what he needed to win the $100k, but the main priority in the races was to practice his kick and tactics the final 400.
Also if the goal is to win the 100k, I just don't see why time matters at all. Grant is not pr'ing in 5k or 3k in 85 degree windy weather without a pacer. What difference does it make if wins the 5k in 14:39 or 13:29? Neither is a good time, but the 14:39 is likely much less of an impact on the legs and he can get back to hard training sooner.
Grant just got paid $100k to do a workout where he worked on his weakest link, and people want to fault him for it. Ridiculous.
