Scanning the start lists of the Penn Relays 4xMile and DMR, I’ve never seen such loaded fields. I guess it’s due to this being a golden age of college middle distance running. The anchors for the DMR are Teffra, Martin, Green, Murphy, and Cook among others.

What I found interesting is the Villanova is running the 4x800 with Murphy and Langon but those 2 are not on the 4xMile squad. That's an impossible double but I thought that those 2 would be running the 4xMile. It's also hard to imagine, even with them both running 3:33 recently that they are among the 4 fastest 800s guys on the nova roster.

Murphy split 1:47 a few years ago at Big East, the day after he won the 5k.
They often change the runners the day of, so it's not a lock to see the lineup as written. At least the local schools like Villanova. It's more likely for them to stack the 4xmile and DMR as they've done in years past.

Probably just trying to mix it up a bit mid-season. Murphy and Langon already ran awesome inthe mile at the Duke meet (? - I can't remember which meet it was) vs. Virginia's Martin.
I think even when the teams are fast, it's rare, and they're likely going to be so evenly matched that they'll go strategic. I also think the motivation to go sub-16 is gone because it's been done before. The win will be more important this time

UVA just had two guys run 3:39 and 3:42 that should keep Martin in the race heading into the anchor leg. I agree it will be tactical as Penn Relays is all about the win and the distance races have typically been very tactical, rather than all out races. Would love to see the best of the both worlds though with 3-4 teams under 16:00 and it coming down to the last 100. Regardless, looks to be a ridiculous last 400 with Green, Strand, Martin, and does Oregon have someone capable of a quick last 400 (sub 52-53) like Elliot?
Also, don't sleep on Wisconsin. If they run the lineup listed, Spencer should right there on the anchor leg and if his kick is on, they could pull the upset.

I expect a fast W 4x1500 with WA (Cochran/Maatoug/Foerster/O'Sullivan), Providence (Millard/Laverty/Flockhart/May), NC St (Putman/Bush/Hartman/Gapes), Virginia (Appleton/Timm/David/Eudaly) and Georgetown (Bell/Tompkinson/Scrimgeour/Riggins) all pretty strong teams. Easily could see record beaten by 1 or more of these teams.

I doubt these races go tactical anymore for a while

3 of the 4 that are on NC State team were on the team that won last year. Putnam for Amaris Tyynismaa this year. Last year they ran 17:03.29 for the 3rd fastest time in NCAA history. I expect them to go faster this year.
