Look, I love the idea and concept behind and I am hoping so much they will succeed because that means track and field succeeding and I love so much the Sport.
But this first day of the first Slam in Kingston was abysmal. They need to improve everything. Seriously.
-- Empty stands are shocking, there was nobody there for the first few events. It got better through it but it was so disappointing all over. If they didn't sell the tickets in advance, what were they expecting? Didn't the have schools to distribute these tickets too? How can the venue look so empty with literally 100 people watching Gabby Thomas x Marileidy Paulino in what was supposed to be one of the most exciting races of the event? Seriously... so sad to watch.
-- Sport presentation was so bad. Did they watch the Athlos event in NY last year? It was unacceptable the poor job done by GST when Athlos had already shown how to improve that aspect. What are they trying to emulate here... a divison 2 of the Diamond League? because that's how they looked.
-- Lack of excitement, music, poor atmosphere, production was so bad. I am so disappointed. Again, this looked like Diamond League Division 2 and I am being gentle.
-- They were barely showing splits for the longer races. That's unacceptable. lack of splits, let fans figuring out how fast fisher ran the last lap. Such a poor job.
-- if you're going to interview the athletes just before they start racing at least interview the right athletes. I mean, for the 400m hurdles you have Dos Santos and his charisma and yet we get to listen to Clément Ducos. Who's managing this...?
-- Some athletes ran and won so easily they didn't even look they were trying. This was supposed to be about rivalries and competition, yet Sydney and Dos Santos win so easily that they don't even look happy.
-- Slow races. No particular fast times. Expected for the start of the season, but still. Very unimpressive.
