University of Tennessee at Martin legend. I remember actively keeping up with his races while I was in high school in the next town over. Glad to see him still doing well!

Evidently, Ryan Ford also wore the Pumas. I will roughly try to paraphrase what he says, but it's at 6:12 of the interview:
"I mean, they felt pretty good. I, you know, I uh haven't done like anything besides this in them. Uh, but yeah, they felt pretty good today, so I'm happy with it. Uh, I got them two days before, two days ago, so I just did a couple strides in them and I was like yeah, they're good."
Some people were wondering earlier if he ran in the Pumas. He did, and they seem to have also made a difference in this case.

Wow. Didn't try them until 2 days out. Those shoes must be damned good to trust in a world major.
Wonder what his backup plan was if those were a no go...Nike execs have to be losing their minds today

My experience is that people who spend all their time in the mountains of North Carolina tend to turn out a bit weird. This seems to support that feeling
I have no idea, but this reminds me of a British runner called George James who recently came out of nowhere. Guy was running 33 mins for the 10K in 2021 and has now run a 2:10 marathon last week at the European Running Championship. Would argue this is more suspicious than even some of the east african runs we've seen in the last few years.
As a fan of distance running, it's hard not to be cynical about the Kenyan's win in Chicago. Its time to talk about the elephant in the room in the sport
