Runner's World Evaluates The New Format For GST And Asks "Did the ‘long distance’ group get screwed?" They think the changes GST made for Philly were mostly good, but that a 3000m for the "long distance" group didn't work. They got half the prize money (since they were only running one race) and a 3k isn't a long distance race, nor an event at Worlds or the Olympics. Cole Hocker said that he would have raced the 5000m for this meet if they had it, but he didn't see the point in running a 3k.

The Telegraph: Transgender Athlete AB Hernandez Wins Three Medals At California State Championships In response to backlash the state meet changed the rules this year so that Hernandez "shared" medals with the girls who should have won (so each event had four medalists). That didn't stop protests though as there were some people with shirts and signs saying "Save girls sports" and a plane circled the stadium pulling a banner that read, "No boys in girls sports!"
The Seattle Times: Washington Transgender Athlete Veronica Garcia Booed After Repeating As State 400m Champion 55.70 for 400m won't make varsity as a boy, but it can win a girls state title by more than a second.

GST's successful run in Philly came to a close Jefferson-Wooden (10.73) and Bednarek (9.86) both ran PBs/world leaders in the 100 while Young (8:01.03) won his GST debut in the 3,000 thanks to a 25.61 last 200 after Grant Fisher scratched. Josh Kerr (3:34.44) and won the 1500 for the men while Diribe Welteji (1:58.94) completed the 1500/800 double for the women.

Marco Arop and Kenny Bednarek totally BOSSED their fields as Arop won with a negative split 1:43.38 and Bednarek won by 0.55 in 19.95.Jamal Brit pulled off a big upset in the 110h with a 13.06 win. In the women's 200, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden upset Gabby Thomas, 21.99 to 22.10. Other winners included Paulino (49.12), Welteji (3:58.04) and Agnes Ngetich (8:43.61).

LRC How American Jonah Koech Sprung One of the Biggest Upsets in Diamond League History

Jonah Koech wasn't even supposed to be in Sunday's 1500. As they approached the bell, he was in 13th out of 17. A lap later, he was the champion. He is just the third American man to win a Diamond League 1500/mile and the first runner sponsored by Under Armour to win a DL race. His 3:37.27 pre-race pb is also the slowest of any man to win a DL 1500/mile.

"He’s still feeling parts of the concussion coming to him when he reaches certain high speeds and levels," said Girma's agent Hussein Makke. "...He’s not normal yet. He’s able to train and he’s put in good workout sessions, but at such a point, a combination of intensity and other things, he feels some dizziness and some things...He's planning to come back and run his race when he’s close to 100%."

LRC Parker Valby Is On The Mend After Missing The Ten Due to Injury

"She is on the mend,"said Parker's father and agent, Kyle. "I don’t want to get into [the specifics of the injury] at this point, but she is in good shape...I’ll be able to share more [about racing plans] in the future, we’re just waiting on a few things relative to her health. She’s in a good spot mentally."

Simpson and Centrowitz, who both 1st medalled in 2011 and retired in 2024, leave the sport as two of the faces on the Mt. Rushmore of American 1500m running after piling up a combined eight medals at global championships. And despite not ever finishing in the top 3 on the yearly 1500 list (Simpson's best was 4th, Centro's 9th), they will be remembered as two of the better milers of their generation.
