Almost, but not quite. Hedengren ran 4:23.50. The NCAA record is held by Silan Ayyildiz at 4:23.46. However, Hedengren's time is faster than Katelyn Tuohy's 4:24.26 American collegiate record.

On the contrary, your comparison is unfair because you're comparing her en route time during a high school mile race to times that collegians ran in 1500m races with pros after the conclusion of the NCAA season.

More importantly at least they got the 1500 en route time, which counts as a legit time.
4:04.68 may well end up JH's 1500 hs/U20 best. Unless she runs 1500 at usatf or in a pro meet, PRE?

That would be amazing, but she might have to run a bit faster to claim that accolade. Jim Ryan broke the mile world record by over 2 seconds when he was 19.

Mu literally won gold in the 800 at 19.
Hedengren is great but you need to put her performances in perspective.

I believe Mary Decker broke the Indoor WR in the 800m at age 14, then beat the Olympic silver medalist head to head. Most 14-yo girls are worried about Friday's Algebra test or that their hair looks nice, not breaking world records.
