Guessing age off a picture is probably stupid....that being said, both he, Kiptoo Alamisi and Mehary I'd put as young athletes ~ 20-21, but not 18 as listed. Whatever the case, he is quite young in his career so the improvement curve bears watching.

According to W.A. this is Saymon's first season on the circuit, so running 27:10 in 10km in Lille (16/03/25), and 13:01.85 six weeks later in Nice (31/05/25) is a phenomenal start.
His running technique is very dynamic, all legs and arms at full extension, like a boxer. Kid's a mini monster. Tiny, light body.
Projection: 12:45/26:30 within next 2 seasons.
Question mark ? His basic speed? I'd put him at 3:34.00-3:36.00 right now. 3:32.00 potential.

I thought I read an article from last year that said Mehary was 19 (not 17).

Yes, there was a piece that said he was 19 when he was listed at 17, as astutely noticed by a great poster here, Will Coop. Since he never really did juniors, I guess it's not really worth belaboring. Interestingly, you just never know with this stuff. I think there is healthy skepticism with Alamisi or maybe another Kenyan like Dennis Kipkoech (runner-up at World Juniors in the 3K last year). Yet Kipkoech looked incredible in a recent 5K race this year running a massive PB to run 13:01 to win a Gold Level race and beat Alamisi and Mehary. Meanwhile the Norwegian who won the 3K last year recently is only at 13:22 (a modest PB), and would look like a rank amateur vs. Kipkoech in a 5K right now. So you just never know with improvement, and don't want to make blanket assumptions about the age of East Africans.
Low chance this guy goes to the NCAA. Eritrea doesn’t like their athletes training here, hence why they snubbed Habtom for Paris. Good luck to this guy
Sorry. Given the level of age cheating when it comes to Africans, guy is more like 22 at least. Look at him.
Ok, say he is 22, not 18, this kid (or gentleman) still has a great future. Do you remember Zersenay Tadesse, former world half champion, and sub 13:00/27:00. Saymon, I think has more potential.
Age is clearly a few years more, maybe five. I charted a host of Kenyan athletes successful at very young listed ages and most improved no more after the first year or two of international success. Nevertheless, he just emerged, winning a race in 13:01 and so surely will go faster against better opponents. So, he is likely to run a lot faster this year, if not for many years to come. Had he been a world level competitor even last year, he would have been competing internationally. Because he didn't, or at least didn't get on the radar, he must still be improving markedly and hasn't peaked just yet.

That's just your opinion, it's not a fact...he could very well be 18. WE ALL have seen many people from several countries that look older than there age.
