The West 10k looked like a Kenyan national meet.

On the athletics side it wouldn’t be that bad. We have plenty of top quality runners in this country. It would just expand opportunities for more US athletes to test their limits. There is plenty of talent in this country that goes by the wayside because of colleges bringing in older professional athletes from other countries.

There were actually 4 Americans that finished in the top 12 of the west regional 10k. Why bother developing American talent when you can have immediate success going abroad?

What will the NCAA look like when the SEC and all the other power 4 conferences leave the NCAA in 3 years?

It should be based on merit! No affirmative action or special DEI categories like "American".

This is big news. I am shocked it’s not bigger right now on LetsRun. If didn’t get your athletes visa interview in time you might be SOL.

Or you could end up with just like public schools systems, everyone attends the colleges closest to you. Maybe you could have a couple choices if that school doesn’t have curriculums you are looking for. In fact this is a nonissue when everything can be learned online or we don’t need to learn anything in an AI world.

One unforeseen benefit of this new policy – if it holds, and TACO may get in the way – is that US coaches will have to go back to coaching instead of recruiting 25-year-old freshmen from Iten. Bringing young US runners up to national and international standards is almost certainly a more challenging job than simply paying ScholarBook with the taxpayers’ money.

USA's collegiate Sprinters are better than any other Country (Except maybe Jamaica) even if the USA was restricted to use only Collegians, and The Other Countries could use every top Sprinter in that Country.

In regards to coaching, what if we made every state school only have access to runners from their state? Then that would force schools like NAU to develop its own athletes instead of being able to recruit sub 8 min 3k guys in HS.

90% of NCAA coaching is about getting the best recruits - whether they be foreign on domestic.

I’m 100% in support of a school like Iowa State getting Kenyans bc be real, what top American kid wants to go to Iowa.

Why in three years? What is stopping them from leaving now?

It's obviously the case that while foreign students take spots Americans would get, where there are enough Americans to fill them, the foreign students bring a huge influx of money to the U.S. and most of them stay and add to our economy immensely because they have talent and that immigrant work ethic. In athletics, the loss of international athletes would open up more spots for Americans, especially in sports where they dominate, like golf, tennis, and soccer, especially, partially making up for the loss of roster spots from the House settlement, but also lowering the bar.

This is big news and I too am surprised there is not much media attention. Curious how long they plan to keep interviews and applications suspended? Gonna have to follow this as close as the NCAA House Settlement and things have been strangely quiet on that front.

I agree that foreigners are depriving American runners from running at the higher levels and elite... but most real American talent is running somewhere. Even if you are a mediocre high schooler... there are plenty of D2, NAIA and JUCO programs that will take you. It isn't like American talent is completely locked out of collegiate running due to foreigners...
