Hey guys,
I’m a 19-year-old runner working toward a sub-16 5K and sub-34 10K. Today I did a session I was looking forward to, but the threshold part felt harder than expected and I cut it a bit short. Here's the breakdown:
Session:
15min Threshold @ ~3:34/km pace (total 4.21km)
6min rest + changed into race shoes
8 × 45s @ 5K pace (around 3:09–3:13/km) with 30s jog recoveries
Plan was to do 20min threshold, but I cut it at 15min because I just didn’t feel smooth today. The reps after felt fine, not amazing, but controlled.
I’ve got an XC race coming up in 6 days (4km), and I’ve been consistent with my training: threshold, fartleks, long runs, etc. This will be my first race in 2 years.
Any thoughts on:
Why threshold might’ve felt off?
If this session still helped fitness?
Whether it’s better to stop early or grind it out pre-race?
Any feedback is appreciated.
