Parker Valby Is On The Mend After Missing The Ten Due to Injury
"She had a little bit of an injury which is why she pulled out of The Ten, but everything is fine," said Kyle - Parker's father and agent.
By Jonathan GaultWith the calendar turning to May on Thursday, almost every top American mid-d or distance pro has opened up their 2025 outdoor season. One notable exception: Parker Valby, who won six NCAA titles at the University of Florida and finished 11th in the 2024 Olympic 10,000-meter final before turning professional and signing with New Balance Boston in October.
Valby has raced just once since the Paris Olympics, clocking an 8:34.95 personal best in the 3,000 meters at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 2. She was initially entered at The Ten in California on March 29 but withdrew before the race, with no reason publicly announced.
On Wednesday, LetsRun.com reached out to Kyle Valby — Parker’s father and agent — who explained she missed The Ten due to injury.
“She had a little bit of an injury which is why she pulled out of The Ten, but everything is fine,” Kyle Valby said.
Parker Valby briefly deactivated her Instagram account on Tuesday but Kyle said it is not uncommon for her to take breaks from social media.
“From time to time with Parker, she will just get away from social media,” Kyle said. “…She will do that before races and when it starts getting silly and stuff like that. I think it was a day or two that it was inactivated, but it’s back. It’s up and running. I don’t think there’s any method to the madness there.”
Additionally, Kyle confirmed that Parker is still being coached by Team New Balance Boston’s Mark Coogan.
Kyle Valby said he could not share details of when or where Parker’s first race of the 2025 outdoor season will come, but was optimistic about her progress.
“She is on the mend,” Kyle Valby said. “I don’t want to get into [the specifics of the injury] at this point, but she is in good shape…I’ll be able to share more [about racing plans] in the future, we’re just waiting on a few things relative to her health. She’s in a good spot mentally.”
