He ran it. If Boston has a tailwind, then it’s not a legit course. However, when it has a headwind, which it did, it negates the drop, and the late hills in that race make it a fair race anyway. Mantz’s same race on a flat, good weather London course was worth a 2:04:xx.
But, I take your point. Let’s see him run that 2:04 once and for all. Chicago is a gamble.

Not only American but also a Nike athlete, and Chicago is the Nike major in the US. Surely he's getting paid significantly well to run his sponsor's race here. Considering that, the effort's probably worth it.
