Nico Young is the future of the 5k and 10k. While Grant is busy doing lactate testing his Jerry training is wearing off and Young is looking to get medals. Fisher so ducked the competition

Good thing Jerry’s training wore off BEFORE Paris or Grant would never have medaled.
I’m not buying for a moment that Fisher ducked Young, but I do suspect Young would have beaten Fisher in today’s race.
Between 12:51 and 3:50.9 indoors, and how he ran today, Young is looking like a legitimate medal threat now and he’s still only 22.
He has greater speed than Grant. You could see that today. So in an unpaced race, Grant would need to drop him early or outfox him tactically which is hard with 8 starters. I know the temptation is for Nico to double, but I’d rather just see him go all-in on the 5,000. No Woody experience where he ends up never running his best event or is tired by the 5k final. One event, medal or bust.
And if you think Nico is not better at the 5,000 than 10,000 I think that’s crazy. I have Aregawi/Grant ahead of him there and possibly Barega too. At 5,000 it’s Jakob and….yeah.

Will Nico move to Nike in order to keep Smith as his coach after his Adidas contract ends?
I was just thinking about making a thread about this. I personally think it would be a big mistake to leave Mike Smith, but I also didn’t expect Nikki Hiltz to leave Smith; presumably so they could stay with Lululemon. I imagine Young would prefer to stay with Smith and switch to Nike, but who knows. I wonder how Adidas feels about this current situation, knowing they’re potentially going to lose someone to their biggest competitor who will very likely be a medal contender for quite some time.
I wonder if grant is protesting the change of event structure for the LD guys. Breach of contract or something like that…
And being scared to race Nico. No one could of beat Nico Young today
I dont think he could have been scared of nico before today. Nico has historically not been a great kicker and was somewhat of a disappointment in the NCAA compared to high school. Unsure why anyone would have expected this today.
He is in the perfect environment and although Adidas has been good for him and obviously their shoes are working Smith's coaching is key. As for Hiltz, personally I feel leaving Smith was a big mistake at the very least until she had to. Time will tell.

Yes and no. I feel like the last year or two we have seen a big change in Nico, and this is for the first time we are seeing him race outside of the NCAA seasons where he isn’t properly peaked. He did well at the trials and Olympics but I don’t think it told the whole story of his potential because at that point in the year he was cooked. I think his post-Olympic races have been very methodical so far and have indicated he has the speed (3:50 mile!) to kick down most people.
