USATF NYC Grand Prix Is Cancelled for 2025

The USATF LA Grand Prix and USATF Bermuda Games were also cancelled this year

The USATF New York City Grand Prix, which had been scheduled to be held on June 21 at Icahn Stadium, has been cancelled for 2025. The meet’s status for future years is uncertain.

The first iteration of the meet began in 2005 as the Reebok Grand Prix (later the adidas Grand Prix) and was part of the Diamond League circuit from 2010-15. In 2016, adidas cancelled the meet, replacing it with a street meet, the adidas Boost Boston Games (which moved to Atlanta in 2023).

USATF helped revive the NYC Grand Prix in 2022 as part of its Journey to Gold Series, which was designed to provide elite domestic competition opportunities for athletes and increased visibility for the sport in the United States. That same year, USATF debuted the Bermuda Games, and in 2023, USATF added the Los Angeles Grand Prix at UCLA. All three meets were nationally-televised on NBC in 2024, with the NYC and LA Grand Prix both forming part of World Athletics’ Continental Tour Gold — professional track’s second-highest tier of meets after the Diamond League.

Now, in 2025 — just three years out from a home Olympic Games — the Bermuda Games, LA Grand Prix, and NYC Grand Prix have all been cancelled.

NYC Grand Prix meet director Mark Wetmore did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

USATF released the following statement:

USA Track & Field is disappointed to learn of the cancellation of the 2025 New York Grand Prix, originally scheduled for June 21. While USATF does not organize this event, we understand the impact this change may have on athletes seeking critical opportunities to compete, earn prize money, and gain world-ranking points.

Our domestic calendar is strategically designed with depth and flexibility, ensuring that elite athletes have consistent, high-quality, competitive platforms throughout the season. USATF remains committed to supporting elite athletes by actively securing viable alternatives and will continue working with our partners to maximize opportunities across the US track and field landscape.

We are confident in the strength of and the opportunities in the 2025 outdoor season and remain focused on helping our athletes prepare for global success.

2025 has seen the debut of Grand Slam Track, which offers four competitive opportunities in North America with significant prize money for athletes.
