Join us in Central Park on Saturday, June 7 for the Mastercard New York Mini 10K and follow in the footsteps of legends at the 53rd running of this historic ...
The fields is stacked. Marathon stars Hellen Obiri and Sharon Lokedi and Gotytom Gebreslase as well as US Olympians Weini Kelati, Emily Sisson, Emily Infeld, and Dakotah Popehn.
Unsure! I talked to her yesterday and she was all systems go but didn’t see her at the finish or in the race…granted after the first 10 in the broadcast it can be hard to spot, but she assuredly didn’t come through the mixed zone/and I never saw her in the finish area :
Sisson posted on IG she was a little under the weather earlier in the week, thought she was feeling better, but then woke up this morning feeling worse and decided not to race. Disappointing because she seemed to be in amazing form, beating Obiri and Gebresalase in Manchester. Excited to see what she will do at the BAA 10K!
Here're some videos with the athletes post-race, and some notes:
Obiri - Predicts Beatrice Chebet will break 14 at Pre Classic, and believes in Faith to break 4. She's also strongly considering doing World Cross, and thinks she's good enough to make the Kenyan squad, but would have to fly out to Kenya. That being said, she might do that anyway as she divulged she's training for her fall marathon in Boulder, but prefers wintertime in Kenya.
Kelati- Also considering World Cross, and thinking why not. Indicated she's still low-mileage to be a half/full runner. Was definitely mildly "shook" when I let her know the Pre Classic 5,000 was Kenyan Trials.
Roe- Not worried about Worlds qualifying time for 10,000m at USAs. Seemed pretty pleased with the outcome though she wanted to hang on longer after Obiri's move.
Vestri- Thinks she might've slightly misjudged the pace with the humidity, but still happy with her performance. Working on speed (big recent 5K PB), and at a different level of confidence after last year's breakthrough
Popehn- Running Gerry Bjorklund half next before undisclosed fall marathon, says between the back-half of 2024 to Boston it's been hard, but she's trending in the right direction
Obiri put the hammer down just before to 6-mile mark and unleashed some dangerous arm swings to scare Kelati who had a good race.
Who is going to make the 10k USA team this summer?
Seems Kelati is in excellent fitness.
Karissa Schweizer just ran an unspectacular 5k in Rome DL.
Is there enough time for Parker Valby to get into race shape?
I feel like Kelati and Roe are now my top 2. I probably shouldn’t doubt Cranny but she’s had a rough go and said she cut down her mileage. She might be better-suited for the 5K. Schweizer also a bit of a concern. Vestri looks really fit so if the top two try to drop Cranny with an honest pace she could hang. Vestri ran a little too hard early today but no doubts about her fitness.

Roe was overshadowed by Valby in NCAA. Now it's her time to shine.
