- Whittni Morgan Will Run The 5000M At The Paris Games After Elle St. Pierre And Parker Valby Decline Spots St. Pierre is going to focus on the 1500m and Valby on the 10,000m leaving a spot open for Trials 5th placer Morgan. This after having patellar tendon surgery in November and only starting running again in February.

UKA Selection Criteria Under Fire
- UKA Chair Ian Beattie Tries To Defend Olympic Selection Criteria: “Setting tough standards helps improve performance levels.” He gave some bogus reasoning including that having athletes failing to qualify for the finals in their event has a "demotivational effect" on "genuine medal contenders". Like Josh Kerr is going to have less motivation to win the 1500m because a women's discus thrower failed to make the final? He also mentioned the financial side of paying for a team to go to the Games even though past UKA officials have said it had nothing to do with money.
- GB Steepler Phil Norman Bashes UK Athletics After He Was Left Off Olympic Team Even Though He Missed The Standard By Just .15 Seconds Norman said, "This season I was British champion, ran the fastest time by a British athlete since 1992 and broke the championship record which had stood since 1990. I am now ranked 6th fastest of all-time on British rankings. In the eyes of UKA I am not good enough. Physically I am in the shape and form of my life. But mentally and emotionally I have nothing left to give."

- RIP 1968 800m Olympian And Hayward Field Meet Official Wade Bell, 79 Bell was coached by Bill Bowerman at Oregon, was the 17th American to run a sub-4 mile and at one point held US records at 1000 yards and 1000m. He worked as a meet official at Hayward Field for many meets, including a couple days during the recent Olympic Trials.
- RIP Former Indiana University Coach Ron Helmer, 77 At IU he coached 6 individual NCAA champions and 407 All Americans.

World half marathon Champ Sabastian Sawe (28:03) and Stacey Ndiwa (31:12) Win 55th Running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race It's crazy that Sawe didn't try out for the Olympics as this year he's won Kenyan xc, in Prague (58:24) and now in Atlanta. He broke free of 10,000 worlds silver medallist Daniel Ebenyo, who had jumped out to an 8-second lead at mile 2. Jake Robertson was the first non-Kenyan in 5th (28:37). In the women's race, 2:25 marathner Stacy Ndiwa (LA champ) outkicked 2:18 marathoner Irene Cheptai.

- Ackera Nugent Wins Jamaican Champs 100H I New National Record Of 12.28 Two-time world champ Danielle Williams made her first Olympic team finishing second in 12.53. There was a blanket finish in the men's race with Rasheed Broadbell winning in 13.18, Orlando Bennett timed in 2nd with 13.18 as well and Olympic champ Hansle Parchment 3rd in 13.19. 2016 Olympic champ Omar McLeod was 5th (13.22).
- Jamaica Men's 4x400 Fail In Fourth And Final Attempt To Qualify For The Paris Games They need faster than the 2:59.12 set by 16th ranked Zambia, but only managed 2:59.87. It's only the second time since 1948 that Jamaica won't have a men's 4x400 at the Games. In the span of 60 minutes on Sunday, six meet records fell in the track events, including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's 50.65 WR in the 400 hurdles. Jonathan Gault puts it in perspective for you.
Fisher won a great duel with Abdihamud Nur and Parker Wolfe dueled with Graham Blanks for the third spot. After it's over, Robert Johnson wonders if Fisher really is at a new level in 2024? And will Wolfe or Blanks go to Paris?
Bryce Hoppel entered the exclusive 1:42 club as training partner Hobbs Kessler made the Olympics in his second event and Brandon Miller got 3rd.

- MB: Jakob allowed to run 5000 at Norwegian champs even though he didn't enter. Beats Nordas, runs 13:14. This came the day after he won the 1500.
- 3 days after becoming a father, Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins 1500 at Norwegian champs on his home track in new stadium record of 3:34.03 The weather was nasty.
- MB: When Jakob's wife called to say she was having contractions, he was in St. Moritz. He then did a workout, flew home, took her to the hospital, did another workout and got back in time to cut the umbilical cord

British Champs
The 2022 world champion withdrew from the Britis trials on Friday and will need a lot of help to make it to the Olympics. "It’s all completely out of his control now," Geoff Wightman to LRC. "It depends on results on the weekend. For 1500, there’s almost no chance because it’s first two plus Josh and the first two are very likely to have the standard."

UK News - British Trials Are This Weekend
This means Wightman's chances of competing in Paris could be slim. The British system gives one discretionary spot (already going to Josh Kerr in the 1500m and world bronze medalist Ben Pattison in the 800m) and then first two across the line get automatic selection if they have the standard. So Wightman has to hope someone finishes top two who doesn't have the standard and then he could possibly be given another discretionary spot.

Time Dubs Paris 2024 "The Noah Lyles Games"
Time does a lengthy profile/interview with Lyles where they write that Paris is "set to go down as the Noah Lyles Games." If he can repeat his performance from 2023 Worlds, he'll be the first man since Usain Bolt to pull off the Olympic sprint triple gold and the first American since Carl Lewis 40 years ago.

FSU's Jeremiah Davis won the long jump with 8.20m in what was the "tightest battle in a Trials final since 1972" (only 2 centimeters separated first and third).

- World Athletics African Championships Recap Letsile Tebogo anchored Botswana's 4x100 to a national record of 38.19 which puts them into a qualifying spot for the Olympics. Although it looks like he carried through on his threat to scratch from the 100m after the poor organization in the first round.
- Greece's Olympic Long Jump Champ Miltiadis Tentoglou Takes Narrow Victory On Home Soil In Athens With 8.06m He barely beat Bulgaria’s European U20 silver medalist Bozhidar Saraboyukov (8.05m).

Lyles tied his pb by running 9.83 with Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Fred Kerley (9.88) joining him on the team to Paris, while Coleman was 4th in 9.93.
Kenneth Rooks in the king of the US steeple now, Matthew Wilkinson is a real life Cinderella, and so may be James Corrigan who stunned everyone to get third with Evan Jager likely still going to the Olympics in 4th. Hillary Bor had a devastating fall.

Yared Nuguse tied the Olympic Trials record in the 1500 to lead qualifying for the final as Cole Hocker looked sharp to setup a mouth watering final.
Noah Lyles looked amazing, so did Yared Nuguse and Cole Hocker, as the high school kid Christian Miller struggled with his start but showed some poise.

After finishing 2nd, 2nd, and 4th the last three years, Fisher finally won the US 10k title, taking off with 1k to go and using a 4:06 final 1600 to break the field, as Woody Kincaid was 2nd and Nico Young held off a gutsy run by Drew Hunter to finish third. The battle for 3rd was anti-climatic as Paul Chelimo fell off over the final mile so the battle for 3rd meant nothing thanks to there not being quota allocation spots on the track.
Wilson took down a 42-year-old record and won his heat with the second-fastest time of the day. He also broke Justin Robinson's world U18 record of 44.84.

- WADA rips Travis Tygart & Tygart fires back WADA is still pissed Tygart ripped them for clearing 23 Chinese swimmers and said, "If this had been an athlete in China, we dare to think that Mr Tygart would be singing a different tune, and very loudly," but Tygart was having none of it and responded, "Unlike the China TMZ 23, in this case, as the rules required, we provisionally suspend the athlete, presented the issues before an independent arbitrator, and publicly announced the outcome. It is sad to see but Wada has truly lost it and is crumbling before the world’s eyes."
Knighton had been provisionally suspended since April 12 after testing positive for the banned substance trenbolone -- the same substance for which Jarrion Lawson was banned (and subsequently cleared). - Olympic 100m Champ Marcell Jacobs Runs Under 10 Seconds In Both His Heat And Final To Win At The Paavo Nurmi Games Jacobs ran 9.99 in the heats and then won the final in 9.92 (the third fastest time of his career). Sweden’s Andreas Kramer won the 800m in 1:44.65 over Ireland’s Mark English (who broke his own NR with 1:44.69). Ireland went 1-2 in the 1500m won by Cathal Doyle (3:34.09) ahead of Luke McCann (3:34.32). Gabriela Gajanova took the women's 800m (1:59.57) and Omar McLeod (13.29) and Nia Ali (12.48) the sprint hurdles.

Michael Johnson's Plan
The league has signed up Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who has only run 4 Diamond Leagues in her life, to commit to doubling at 4 meets a year. There will be six event groups per sex (no field events) with 48 athletes getting base contracts to double in all four meets (one in LA, other locations TBD). Winners of the combined events scoring will get $100k per meet down to $10k for 8th. The first meet is scheduled for April 2025. What's surprising is the events groups are totally siloed off. So with this format, Michael Johnson would never have faced his 200m rivals Frankie Fredericks or Ato Boldon in the 200 as Johnson would be in the 200/400 group and Boldon/Fredericks in the 100/200 group. So Sydney will never face Marileidy Paulino or Athing Mu in the 400 as they'll be in the 200/400 and 800/1500 groups while she'll be in the 400h/400 group.
