LRC Day 1 Recap: Shelby Houlihan, Paul Chelimo Earn Dominant 3K Wins Thanks To Big Last Laps The best distance runners in the US the last three years, Shelby Houlihan and Paul Chelimo were on display. Houlihan led the BTC women to 1-2-3 finish (and 5 of the top 6), and Chelimo led the Scott Simmons group to a 1-2-3 finish as well. Christian Coleman (6.48) looks like he can break the WR in the 60 and the TJ record fell twice (Keturah Orji (14.60m), Tori Franklin (14.64m)).

Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas Breaks Indoor Triple Jump Record With 15.43m In Madrid The two-time world champ broke the 16-year-old record by 7cm on her final jump. Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale set a MR and secured the World Athletics Indoor Tour title by winning the 3000m in 7:39.96 over Bethwel Birgen (7:40.23) and Selemon Barega (7:40.30). Gudaf Tsegay won her third consecutive 1500m in 4:04.66 over Axumawit Embaye (4:05.24). Collins Kipruto took the 800m in 1:46.09 over Adam Kszczot (1:46.30). Christina Clemons (7.82) beat out Nia Ali with a MR in the 60H and Ronnie Baker set one in the 60m (6.44).

Mondo Duplantis Falls Short Of His Third Consecutive WR As He Tops 6.07m And Narrowly Misses 6.19m In Lievin, France On the women’s side, Sandi Morris also attempted to equal the PV indoor world record (5.03m held by Jen Suhr), but also had a close miss and settled for a 4.83m win. LRC Shelby Houlihan & Josh Thompson Complete Bowerman TC Sweep Of 1,500s At 2020 USATF Indoors Houlihan used a sub-30 final lap to win her 13th US title while Thompson held off defending champ Craig Engels and unheralded (and unsponsored) Nick Harris to earn his first US title.

LRC Ajee’ Wilson And Bryce Hoppel Comfortably Win 2020 USATF Indoor 800-Meter Titles (As Expected) The 800s went very much according to form as Wilson and Hoppel earned wins as expected.

Tokyo Marathon Cancels Mass Participation Race Over Coronavirus; Only Elites Will Run Runners will be allowed to defer their entry until next year, but would have to pay again and would not get their money back from this year’s race. World Athletics Recap: Mondo Duplantis Breaks PV WR Again With 6.18m In Glasgow Duplantis picked up a $30,000 bonus for breaking his own record from a week ago, sailing over it on his first attempt. Distance winners winners included Adam Kszczot (1:46.34) in the 800m (just .18 ahead of Kenya’s Cornelius Tuwei) and Bethwell Birgen in the 1,500m (3:36.22).

LRC Ethiopia’s Ababel Yeshaneh Upsets Brigid Kosgei And Smashes Half Marathon World Record At 2020 RAK Half Marathon Yeshaneh, who lost to Kosgei by nearly 7 minutes in Chicago, took 20 seconds off the old word record and won in 64:31 as Kosgei also broke the old WR. In the men’s race, Kibiwott Kandie got the win in 58:58 after beating Geoffrey Kamworor last week in Kenya in controversial fashion.
