Can't wait to hear more about how slow American times were today with temps in the 70s & a 60s dew point.
As far as Fauble's times go -- his 2:08 PB is from Boston & he pretty much only runs NYC/Boston/Olympic Trials. He's really just gone after a fast marathon once in his career (Marathon Project- out in 2:08 pace, finished with a 2:09). & he's only gone after a fast half once & ran 1:01 in January in Houston. If he ran Berlin/London every year since 2016 & went out in 1:03-1:04 he'd have faster PBs. Probably something around 2:07ish. 2:13 & top-10 is a strong effort today. 2:10 got on the podium. You can't possibly just read his 2:13 today as a 2:13. Same with the American women -- the top-5 crushed it today.
Only 6 American men beat the winning woman’s time
So what you're saying is that women are getting faster?? Not exactly going out on a limb with that one. Women are closing the gap in a lot of endurance sports. Also tons of studies about how women pace themselves better, which can help on a day like this. They also, you know, ran in different races today. Some American men went out way too hot in these conditions. All the more impressive to see someone like Fauble nail it.
Nascimento going out and exploding was so, so entertaining. A virtual no namer in the field that gave himself a chance to win; to the point where he literally collapsed.
As Nascimento was going suicide pace, Rupp tucked his tail and dropped. Neither finished, but good for Nascimento for actually putting himself out there
Huh? Two marathons under 2:07 on his resume -- one in 2021 (2:06:11) and one in 2022 (2:04:51), and you call him a "virtual no namer"? And, by the way (to MasterofNone and others), his name is DO Nascimento, not Nascimento.
I'm here thinking improving my form will make me a better runner, then I see guys like Kitata with that horrible form but running that fast. Would he be faster with better form? Does it even matter?
There are a lot of examples of top runners with horrible form, like Paula Radcliffe among others.
Do Nascimento is only 24 years old, and already ran 2:04:51. I hope that he learns with this kind of mistakes. He said in a pre race interview that he took Nyc because he wanted to run a strategic type of marathon before doing another flat course. He got some tips from Marilson dos Santos, fellow brazilian runner, two times nyc marathon winner. As a brazilian myself, it was great to see Daniel leading, and i hope that he bounces back to run snother fast marathon (and finishing) on 2023.
I didn't pick Faubs for top American cause he looked liked he had been hit by a car in that last video of him posted by Citius. But he pulled it together!
Abdi has also been running for years all hunched over. Expected a better time for Hellen Obiri cause of the newbie times from Ayana and Genzebe D. but they have more constrained forms. She did pretty well though considering the hills and humidity. Even as a cross-country champ, maybe you can't know what happens after the 20-mile mark and there are MORE hills.

Good form is probably overrated.
Bad form can be overcome, but good form is probably not overrated, especially in the marathon. Kipchoge’s perfect form gives him a big advantage over a guy like Kitata everything else being equal (of course it’s not only form that separates them). Every bit of excess energy spent not prowling you forward is a hindrance to greatness. Obiri is up against this in the marathon. Gidey, on the other hand, perfect form.

Yes, efficient form is important especially as you go longer. Paula Radcliffe, however had near perfect form from the shoulders down. But her head movements draw the eye and distract from her otherwise excellent form.
Igy: good training plan which I will plagiarize and use. Allen1959: patience sucks, but it works. Good for you. Newbi: the time to retirement goes by faster than a training run. One day at a time. I like the training. Scubacane: effort running is the fastest way to improving and to enjoying the runs. Excellent. Olde Farte: my grandkids have begun inquiring about my runs and running with me. I giggle to their reactions to how far I run, “you go further than around the track?” Old Guy and dhaaga are so damned consistent. Quietly inspiring. I took myself in to see the doc: I earned a grade 1 high ankle sprain. I can run to pain without long-term damage. goodie. M: 60:00 treadmill @ 13:40 pace T: 75:00 treadmill @ 11:50 pace W: 9M w/6M push, last 3M @ HMP Th: 90:00 treadmill @ 86-109 HR avg (determined heart rate better than treadmill pace) F: 40:00 treadmill @ 105-119 HR Sat: 15M - first 5M in the dark (I don’t run fast in the pitch dark) @ 11:50 pace; middle 5M @ 10:30 pace; final 5M @ 9:30 pace. Felt good about it. Not bad for being 63 with a bad ankle and assorted other aging issues. enjoy the week

For marathoning fans, this guy is fascinating. The 24yr-old holds the (Western Hemisphere) American Record in the marathon, with 10000m and Half PB’s of 28:40 and 1:01:03, respectively.
He previously ran himself to ‘collapse’ in the Tokyo Olympic Marathon in July ‘21.

So he is with ADIDAS, correct? Does he marathon race in off-the-shelf ‘Adizero Prime X’?
