C'mon... At least this thread is running related. I am a man that likes to double, and my wife is constantly trying to throw a wrench into my second run... and she's a runner, too! I think it is pretty universal that wives hate it when their husbands double. Good for nothing, skinny, tired, husbands. But at least I am usually happy.

It was never a problem for me. If I was going to run twice in a day I just did it when it didn't interfere with anything that mattered.

Most of that isn't so bad. He can run from anywhere, can be flexible on timing mostly and doesn't have to co-ordinate with team mates every time he wants to workout.

But the low testosterone, that really sucks.

Outside of pro elites who do 2x per day because it's their job, never met a normal guy with family doing this. It's always the fanatical hobby jogger type. At best running 2:40 marathon.

If you're running twice a day, you're wasting at least one of those runs.

Seems like every so often a thread like this pops up that insists it's not possible for a working husband and father to run twice a day. It's all about time management, priorities, and communication with your wife. Think of it this way, how is getting in a second 30 min run after work any more selfish than watching tv for 30 min after work? Most people spend much more time watching tv than I do running.

I run commute a lot, helps to not waste time- with how bad traffic is where I live, most of the time I'd spend driving I spend running instead!

Playing devil's advocate, do working husbands with multiple young children have time to sit there on the couch with their wife for 30 minutes and watch TV on a weeknight? And a 30 minute run + getting dressed + stretching + another shower, is more than 30 minutes.

Double runner here. Want sex too. Even twice a day at least. Just not at midnight or later. 5am sex pre-run? 8am post run sex? midday sex? early afternoon? all good.

Learn to work on our time and a compromise can be reached.

Sometimes I do wonder how some guys manage to get so many hours of running in each week. Especially married guys that work and have young kids.

I work 40-45hrs/week at home, have three kids who have school, activities, sports. I also like to visit my parents and brother over the weekend, do fun stuff with the family, etc.

Tough to get up at 5am to run when you've slept 4 hours due to a fussy infant or a sick 5 y/o. I'm totally exhausted by 9pm and just want to chill for an hour before hitting the sack. So I get maybe 30 minutes in during the lunch hour or a random hour around 2pm if work is absolutely dead. Weekends I can usually get a long run in but even then, I feel guilty leaving my wife with all 3 kids while I'm out running.

And my wife also wants an hour a 2-3x a week to do yoga, walk outside alone, or run a few miles on the treadmill.

I know guys in my situation that do ultras that do an hour a day minimum, and at least 2 hours on both Saturday and Sundays. How the hell does the math work out?

The math doesn’t work out. It’s selfish as sh*t and the impact is felt exponentially more than just the time they’re actually running (productivity, energy, naps, etc). Any spouse with kids would rightfully be resentful of someone that’s gone that much everyday. I’m not talking about an hour running in the early morning hours. I’m talking about hobby joggers with a spouse and kids doing doubles everyday and ultra mileage on the weekends.

I’m reminded of that thread a few months back where that mom with multiple kids was gone running like like 3-4 hours a day, and some ppl were trying to pass it off as inspirational. Yeah right! I can say with certainty that every other member of that family harbors resentment to varying degrees over that.

You must not know any sub 2:40 runners then. Nearly every sub 2:40 runner is running 80-100 miles a week, which requires multiple doubles per week.

Well, yes, those things could add another thirty minutes. So I didn't do them except for showering.
