You can’t ever achieve anything great without taking a big risk. That being said, you couldn’t have engineered a more perfect plan to blow up, than going than going out on world record pace, on a hard course, in bad conditions.
If he had hung on and won, setting a course record, we’d say he was a genius and it was one of the great performances of all time, much like Sami Wanjiru in Beijing. But he went for it and hit the wall hard, like many of us have.
Do Nascimento will be a much better marathoner for having shot for the moon and missed.
There is "taking a big risk" and there is coming through the half a minute under course record pace on a terrible weather day. You have to pick your moments.
Idiot.
He's talented but so was Shawn Kemp and look what a bunch of bad decisions and an inability to control himself did for his career.

LMAO never thought I’d see Shawn Kemp related to running but Let’s Run is full of surprises.
I likened his run today to jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. There are some vanishingly rare instances of survival, but basically you are going to go splat. That’s the expectation.
For marathoning fans, this guy is fascinating. The 24yr-old holds the (Western Hemisphere) American Record in the marathon, with 10000m and Half PB’s of 28:40 and 1:01:03, respectively.
He previously ran himself to ‘collapse’ in the Tokyo Olympic Marathon in July ‘21.
This is the mindset of a future world record holder, assuming he has the lungs to go with that. You have to dream it before you can do it, though I don't know that you have to go out in 1:01 in NYC on a warm day, which is insane. I hope he recovers fully.
After I finished some spectators told me one guy was way ahead of the rest of the pack most of the race but he didn't win. Having seen nothing I said was it a Brazilian runner named Do Naciento? Lolyep

Total idiot. There’s a reason certain paces are called suicidal. Here’s hoping he only figuratively died, and doesn’t literally die as a consequence of his suicidal pace.
Baller all the way. I'm sure he'll learn from it. But now that I know he'll go for it. He's going to make each marathon he's entered interesting. Although I doubt he'll start off the way he did today. But he is a baller.
