What I find interesting is the over-all silence from Rowbury's supposed teammates. She just broke an American Record. Scratch that, not just broke, she smashed it. No one on her team gives a peep of support (I'm looking at twitter posts)? Check it out, nothing from Hasay, Moser, Cain....that's just sad to me. Are they that self-absorbed that they don't care about the triumphs of people they train with? I wouldn't want to be on a team like that. Simpson in her interview gave more support for Rowbury than her own f'ing NOPer's. (please, if I am wrong, correct me. I just find that disturbing). All I am currently seeing is their own narrative, just about themselves. Talk about narcissism.

ive often thought its this lack of facility with tone that gets a lot of these athletes the reputations they may or may not deserve. rowbury and simpson are both probably very good people. as are most people. but theyre both a lot less likeable than a lot of other very successful runners. im not sure leer was a reasonable example. i mean, id much rather be leer than simpson, regardless the success discrepancy. but, for example, id also much rather be lagat or huddle, to name a few folks better at tone who have had more success. so its not clear to me that "sc42 is spot on" as was suggested by some other poster. seems more like making excuses for dbaggery that arent particularly convincing.
Interesting observation about tone. I'm with you on Lagat & Huddle, based only on what I've seen of them in interviews. I'd be interested to hear more about why you find JS & SR less likable than other runners.
I'm also curious as to why you'd rather be Leer. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't. I mentioned him because he has long had a reputation for whining, especially after he loses. My point was that Simpson, whatever her shortcomings, does not whine in public. I was thinking mostly of the folks above who claim she's throwing shade at SR on twitter. I just think JS is so focused on herself, that it seems unlikely to me that she's even thinking about SR, let alone throwing her shade. I just don't think that's how she thinks.
As for the rest, I deliberately quoted only that one paragraph from sc42. I'm too lazy to figure out what's going on between the two of you. -
Shannon hired NOP and not the other way around since Portland is the closest to her hometown of San Francisco

what Simpson didn't say, but probably told herself later was that she let Rowbury draft off her for 90% of the race, due to her trying to see if the leaders were within striking distance. Simpson should have just decided to go for the record rather than the win. Instead she got neither........and yes, she's pissed and frustrated.
I think Jenny was fine with letting Shannon draft off her because I don't think for a minute that Jenny consider Shannon a threat. Shannon has really never been a thread to her US dominance. Jenny was looking at the bigger fish. She was competing, in her mind, against the international competition. Yes, Shannon got her this time but I doubt it will ever happen. Again.
"Fine with letting?"
It's not like Simpson had any choice, if she was going to go after #2. Would you really expect Simpson to slow down and make ShanRow take the lead?
Shannon was the smarter, and faster runner that day, result: American Record and big bonus. -
Maybe her teammates congratulated her personally or sent her a private message.
When it comes to interpersonal stuff within the NOP, they seem to be pretty tight lipped, as opposed to the open love fests going on amongst the other training groups.
I understand you want the NOP to be just like your high school cross country team - where you fawn congratulatory tweets to one another, wear mascot stickers on your cheeks or put team colored ribbons in your hair. If that's your boat, than Oiselle or Brooks Beasts are likely your team. Nothing wrong with that. Run happy.
If you side more with the stone cold killers that are actually running for medals and records - well, the NOP is likely your cup of tea. Assassins don't congratulate each other on social media with the number of kills they had last week. They simply nod to each other out of respect as they pass each other on a darkly lit street.

What a laughably macabre view of running. Thank you that made me chuckle.

SR had a major medal (WC Bronze) when she hired a coach with a team close to her home in the city when she signed up with Portland. It's business.

Yeah, I had to laugh.
There is this, though:

#MonacoDL1500m wow! Congrats @MattCentrowitz on #3 all time. You got me bro.

Thanks Alan! That mile is a different story though 😅 -
Damn, that just happened. So damn true! Brooks Beast are a bunch of p^@@!&$ No crying in track ya'll.

Shannon was tired of a crazy old man, who only loves himself. Coach Cook was the shit when he was relevant, 1994.

Maybe I'm hallucinating (not the first time) but 300m into the race did Simpson cut in on Rowbury at the start/finish line? It looked as though Rowbury had to check up as Simpson cut in front. If so, she picked the lead and paid the price. Shannon ran smart, kept her cool and got the AR.
