With the pacer for the men's slated to go through 1k in 2:17 and Genzebe in the women's, fresh off claiming 3:54 last week was comfortable... what do you think we'll see for times and placing today? Here are mine:
Men:
1. Makhdaddy 3:28 low
2. Kiprop 3:28 mid
3. Mo 3:29 low
4. Willis 3:30 low
5. Centro 3:30 mid
Women:
1. Genzebe 3:52
2. Hassan 3:55 high
3. Jenny 3:56 high (AR)

Are they predicting a tailwind in both directions??? Pretty lofty times there. Took a 1/2 day from work, really looking forward to it...

1. Kiprop 3:29.41
2. Mo 3:30.05
3. Jakir 3:30.07
4. Iguider 3:30.45
5. Willis 3:30.82
8. Manzano 3:33.31
9. Centro 3:34.09 -
Centro's 1:49 and Kiprop's "I'm only at 70%" have me worried. Frankly, a 2:17 1k pacer has me worried. 2:19 and 27-28 would be just fine to have them very close to world record pace, with 1200m in 2:46-7 and then still something left to kick in 40-41 (39 if in shape to go after El G's time). If the pace is too hot, no one might go with it. The whole key is to get through through 1200m close to 2:46. Even 2:49 and a good kick would be sufficient to see a bunch of sub 3:30s, and that's what I'm expecting. Maybe no 3:27 this time out but 3:28s and 3:29s from Kiprop (1), Makh Daddy (2), Farah (3) (is Kwemoi not there?), and if the 1:49 was an aberration, we might see Centro as well as Willis and Iguider there as well, just under 3:30.

Dibaba in 3:53, Simpson 3:55 AR, Hassan 3:57.

yes
that is why i'm shocked he ran in meaningless kenyan champs, winning in 1'45+
it weren't the trials & he has wildcard to peking as reigning 1500 champ
i have no idea why he bothered running in nairobi when he always likes to give himself a fully preped shot at a fast 1500 in monaco
in his bowerman form i reckoned he coud definitely have gone 3'26+ if a "perfect race"
now that maybe more like 3'28/3'29 if this "70%" stuff is accurate -
The 1k pacer's 800 pr is 1:46. It'll be a miracle if he hits 2:17. 2:20 would be solid, but my guess is he doesn't make it to 1k.

Dibabi is making a huge mistake if she tries to go any faster from the start. If she thought the last race was easy, then she needs to make up the time in the middle laps this time. If she goes hard look for the leaders to fade to 3:56+. Hassan could easily run her down from behind in that kind of race.
Kiprop doesn't win this one. I'm not sure the pacers can even keep on pace. Mak daddy won't run from the front unless coach told him the same thing as Dibaba going into this race. Mo surely wants a fast time, but is he willing to do it if it means leading? I don't see anyone beating 3:28 this time. -

So when are we giving Ventolin credit where credit is due? 3:26 in a "perfect race". Kiprop obviously used this 70% talk to make the competition less intimidated and underestimate him. As usual, Ventolin is right. -
