Lol at the whole Majors thing. The Majors is a made up thing, completely arbitrary, there's nothing special about completing the Majors. Sure they're big races, some are fast some are hisotric , but the concept is made up. Soon they'll add a seventh race, and then after there'll be 10 or who knows.
EK has proven him self in real races as well, like the Olympics. Is running Boston really that more challenging than the Rio Marathon?
Boston and NY will be his retirement tour post Paris '24.
Not so much a lion, Kipchoge is more like a one-trick pony. He’s the best our planet has ever seen at running fast marathons on flat courses. That’s it, his only trick. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty amazing special trick. It’s just his only one.
This is why the LR boards get criticism. It’s impossible to have a discussion without getting hijacked by the same attention deprived loners with the same lame rhetoric.
Wtf r u talking about? All I asked was where how you arrive at your suggested even-split times.
Wasn’t responding to you directly. Just happened to be the last post at the time. You can relax.
Does the lion get to lead the pride after losing a fight because he was injured.
Being resilient is part of being a top athlete

One trick pony eh? I'll give you 6/10 for coming up with a new one.

You can just click the reply button at the top to reply to the thread in general. I was confused as well since Sprintgeezers post was innocuous, it most definitely looks like you are replying directly to him
Thanks for the backup Farcical! I’m not antiAfrican in any way and I love the people and all of the amazing talent but I just can’t square in my mind how he’s continuing to improve the older he gets?!?! What’s next?
You’re very welcome! Your “What’s next?” question makes me think of a question I have for everyone here who believes Kipchoge is clean: If what he did today at nearly age 38 isn’t enough to raise your suspicion, then what kind of performance and at what age would it take for you to start questioning him? 1:59? 1:58? Age 39? Age 40? At what point do his performances become too incredible for you?
What was also impossible to believe was to see how he finished - without any significant signs of fatigue. And this as he nears age forty while running stratospheric times in one of the hardest of events. For those who imagine he is clean, what would he be running if doped - 1.57? 1.55?
Please note that biology classifications are value neutral. My job as a biologist is merely to objectively classify based on my observation. One-trick pony is the appropriate classification for this individual.
There’s nothing wrong with being a one-trick pony.

So you're new to the sport?
I’ve been following this sport for 30 years. Except for one fluke race in 2003 when his main competitors were tired from contesting other events, this individual was a career also-ran on the track. In cross country he never won anything of note. He has only consistently been a winner in one and only one endeavor: flat marathon races. Hence, one-trick pony.
Calling a person who is the undisputed GOAT at what he does for a living in a forum dedicated specifically to the topic which said person does for a living a "one-trick pony", hilarious. How about we over simplify it a little bit more: all runners are one-trick pony
Then again I'm sure you think triathletes are "jack-of-all-trades" xD

His trick is even more spectacular by virtue of his ability to get faster as he ages. But that is a trick quite a few have learned now.

You are clearly not a biologist. Please leave the classifications to the professionals. I was merely correcting the individual who misclassified the runner as a lion. As a biologist, my job is to ensure organisms are classified properly. Please don’t be upset at me for just doing my job.
Based on your strong reaction, I want to reiterate that there’s nothing wrong with being a one-trick pony. It’s an objective and value-neutral classification. There’s no need to get emotional about it. It’s just objective reality.
I'm sure people have pinned you down on this before but for my sake and possibly others: what exactly is your position? That every single top Runner or athlete ever has used Peds?
or.... tell us the exceptions. Who are the clean champions or record orders or very top elites?
Are Jakob and Warholm cheaters? what about Grant Fisher? What about Ryun, Ovett, Coe and Cram? Centro? Jonathon Edwards? Mike Powell?
Let's hear it.
As many who have investigated doping have concluded, it is in every sport and every country at the top level today, with the frequent collusion of sports governance bodies. As WADA heads have concluded, doping remains ahead of antidoping and few can now be caught. As confidential athlete surveys have shown, doping is rife at the top level. As the effects of doping have further shown, it enables dopers to beat clean athletes - or there would be no doping; gaining advantage is everything. The practice has grown in recent decades and become a fully professional activity in many sports.
From all that, how is it reasonable to conclude that the best and the fastest today are clean and able to beat athletes of similar ability who are doping? If we go with what is probable it suggests that to win at the top today requires doping.
I guess that is sort of answering my question and yes I will admit it's not a completely unreasonable take. However, based on what you wrote I can only conclude that you believe all of the athletes I mentioned are/ were dopers. Is that your take? Because all of them have beaten or nearly beaten the absolute best in the world [ especially if we convert some of the past guys' times to what they would achieve with today's shoes and tracks].
So once again: Jakob, Warholm, Fisher, Ryun, Ovett, Coe, Cram, Centro, Jonathon Edwards, Mike Powell? Every last one of them a PED user??? It would seem to be that it would have to be a "yes" from you based on your above statements. But i'd like you to confirm that. Thx

I don't claim to say every athlete is a doper. That might include you and I know nothing about you. However doping has ballooned in the sport since the '80's - it was present in mainly the E Bloc before then and since the 90's it has become a sophisticated science, frequently undertaken with professional guidance (except, notably, by a number of doping amateurs in countries like Kenya - hence the greater number of busts). The official estimates of prevalence indicate that it is impossible to curb let alone stamp out. As one Russian athlete remarked in an Al Jazeera doco - "it is everywhere". On that basis it is reasonable to infer that it is impossible now to reach the top without doping, because too many competitors will be doped. If you recall the women's 1500 final at London in 2012, virtually the whole field incurred a doping violation at some point. Clearly some were careless, but it was a revealing snapshot of where the sport is. And that was 10 years ago. Doping continues to get more effective at evading detection - while athletes are no less ambitious than they were.
