Berlin Women - 14 sub 2:25 PRs

Chicago Men - 14 sub 2:10 PRs, 8 of them sub 2:07

Chicago Women - 5 sub 2:25 PRs

How long will they let Chicago be a World Marathon Major? The US has 3 of the 6 majors, there is room to cut one from the US. Valencia/Dubai/Amsterdam could easily replace Chicago at this point. Dubai would make the most sense since none of them are in that part of the world, and they're closer to a lot of the top runners in the world.

^^^ And at Chicago the four fastest people are international athletes, then a huge drop off. This is because they only pay out to 5 runners total if you're international, then American. It's a world marathon major so for world rankings they give extra bonus points to the top 10. You're going to have US women running 2:26/2:27 getting big bonus points for their world ranking, meanwhile at Berlin there are too many fast people so you'll have women running 2:24 getting zero bonus points. So at the end of the day the slower US runners will be ranked higher than the 2:24 international runners. Makes a lot of sense, world athletics has made a great system.

^^^ Rojo, I'd be curious to see the same breakdown for Valencia/Amsterdam/Dubai. Just because a race was a world marathon major a 10+ years ago doesn't mean it's still one of the most competitive races in the world today. Those other races should be in the conversation.

That's because Chicago throws a real bone to USA marathon development, like it or not. Far more than Boston or NYC do. Maybe they should stop paying for so many marginal US runners to run, but that's their contemporary legacy. Berlin brings in top German runners but it doesn't come at much of a cost because of Germany's razor thin depth of world class marathon talent. If anything, the US deserves a sort of marathon development tour with enticement for emerging US runners to race Grandma's, Houston, CIM, Twin Cities which would supplant Chicago's support.

Wow, so Kipchoge pretty much has a free ride? No one will challenge him? So will this be like 2018 when he set the world record and just run away from everybody in the 2nd half? Is Kipchoge dodging all the competition or is the competition don't want to run the same race as Kipchoge since they would most likely lose to him? I think only reason Kipchoge lost London 2020(or was it 2021?) because he didn't get all the natural training he goes through with Covid. After that, he came back strong.

Don’t think anyone goes to Berlin to dodge the competition. They generally go there to run fast.
However, hard to see past EK victory. Winning time anywhere between 2:02:30 to 2:03:30 depending on the weather

Having said that, if Adola is on form, it might have to be 2:02’s and shaking him last 1.5km

Looking forward to the Eluid v. Adola rematch. Guye went like 61 and change on the front half in last year's win, and the weather was not great. If it's more temperate and they are working well together, we could see something special.

Surely Khannouchi was top seed at a Major in his career? He would have been top seed at Chicago in 2003 as although his world record was beaten in Berlin that year it was only the month before?
