Maybe I'm a little low on him, but I'm also not expecting top shape. He's got the bye and Rabat will be the bigger showcase on his calendar as well. He's really good at hurdling, and there're a few dynamics when he faces Girma. One, steeple pacing is really bad nowadays. So Girma typically tows him from 1,000-2,800 meters (after getting 1,000 paced for him) it feels like. I think El Bakkali has really benefited from getting to draft. 7:58 is a good time no doubt but I think it's around a 7:30 type equivalent for someone with good hurdling ability. I think Girma could and would go faster if it wasn't all on him to push for 2/3 of these fast Steeple races.
