Catching up on the last three races and holy sh*t! What a meet this has been. Amazing 5k which totally blew my expectations. I know you're all going to go big on Fisher who ran a perfect race, but Krop running 12:45 ftw is stunning - he's run 12:46 and 12:45 just this year. Big props to Fisher for getting his record in a real race and with a big crowd, that must have felt so good compared to his TT records.
Performance of the meet is Mageean, and it's not close. Running 3:56 ftw, her first ever sub-4 and beating Muir, Hailu, and Welteji. Huge respect for her finally making that breakthrough with a DL win.
Wightman, the guy just keeps rolling. Maybe you can be an 80/1500 guy in the modern era. 1:43 PB and I wouldn't bet against him in the DL final next week.
We're really lucky to have these kind of performances so late in the season, especially from Europeans who have had multiple champs this year
I enjoy his interviews. Looks like he s very nice and actually owns a brain.
And whatever happened this year, he generally race smart. He does not go bonkers and keeps something for the end. He always places well. He will win a big race some day.
Definitely rooting for him.
You ve got to root for Krop as well, what a savvy racer. It s good to have so many greats at the same time from 1500 to marathon these days. Inspirational.
Why is Wightman running the 5th ave mile instead of the DL final? Unless Im mistaken and hes doing both?
Isn’t he doing both?
Wightman will run the 800 DL final, then 5th Ave. No more 1500s this year. Hoare mentioned this on the most recent Coffee Club podcast (which is worth listening to in its entirety; witty, thoughtful discussion and Hoare gets very "inside baseball" on elite 1500 racing).
Oh, btw, Kara Winger broke the American record in the javelin (she also won a silver medal in the World's). Doesn't anyone care about FIELD? Grant Fisher isn't the only American who broke a record.
