this is the problem with you LRers
FL vs NXN......is like boston vs london/berlin
LRers' say "but but but boston has the history, so what its slow blah blah blah"
but then for FL....."the course is slow and even though the history is there, the prestige is def at NXN now"
just like someone said about the two, FL is baby nationals now, and boston is baby marathon. rupp might get some fan fare for it, but it will die out prestige wise soon enough just like FL. berlin and london will be the big ones the world cares about, and rupps 2:09 will be just what it is....SLOW
Mindweak, you are actually right. 2:09 is slow. Its slow compared to kipchoges times. What is interesting though, is that a chicago marathon win is more memorable than a fast time. Think of it like that scene in Captain America Civil War where hawkeye shoots an arrow at Iron Man. Iron Man said he missed, but hawkeye meant to miss. He shot the parking garage which released an avalanche of cars onto mr. Well to do Iron Man.
"Theres a first time for everything."
You see, Galen meant to miss a fast time and win Chicago in order to silence well to do folks such as yourself.

No one said anything when Shalane Flanagan kept running Boston.
The double standard on Rupp is getting old!

Says the dork who could never run a Boston 'Thon qualifying time, even if he hung out with Rosie Ruiz!

Money. Media exposure. The OP is an idiot. Without a doubt. Inarguable. The OP is an idiot. lol
The belief that Boston is not a real marathon is not shared by those of us who have been following the sport for decades, nor is it shared by the top athletes. To the contrary, there is respect and even fear among many (particularly foreign athletes) about racing in Boston due to the fact that there are no pace makers, to the unreliable weather, and to the challenging course. So, hate on Rupp all you want, but stop pretending that your lack of knowledge about Boston represents reality.

Rupp is a second tier runner.
3rd or 4th tier in marathoning. You have the sub 2:05 guys, the 2:05-2:06, the 2:07-2:09ers then the 2:09-2:12ish guys.

Your assertion of tiers is misleading in my view, and for several reasons. For one, those who have not contested the flat, paced marathons may well have 2:04 potential. Likewise, those who have run 2:04 may find themselves at sea on a difficult course, particularly one where they are not escorted by pacers. Then, when you factor in the fact that some marathons are more selective about weeding out dopers, the tier system based purely upon time is even less bona fide. I am one for basing marathoning greatness on more than just time alone. The true greats are those who win in championship style races.
If Ritz is fit, then that's an epic storyline for the race.
Who started this bullshit thread and where is it going? nowhere?
What would you say to Meb about this if he was still running? Him running marathons in USA and not running real marathons? Coward right?

I would tell him that he is HIDING.
The only 2 marathons the general population of the U.S. cares about AT ALL are New York and Boston.
If London, Berlin, et al are the only REAL marathons worth running, why is almost everyone and their mother on LRC whining or bitching or bragging or fretting over their BOSTON qualifiers.

Umm, Shalane ran Berlin. And, she's often taken a petal-to-the-metal approach to racing, which engenders respect and admiration, even if it's occasionally foolhardy. But Rupp - he's just so uninspiring. For many of us, it's just so hard to get past that.

What a stupid analysis of Rupp. He runs smart. You just stated perfectly how stupid Shalane is.

Boston Qualifiers are for amateurs, not pros. Chicago is the hardest to win. You are just biased

Slow Meb could never win the fastest marathon in the world, Berlin. Berlin does a great job recruiting the fastest marathoners.
the deepest marathon in the world is London. They have the best corporate sponsorship. It is wrong to say that NY and Boston pay more than London. Mo Farah received a 1 million British Pound appearance fee. London is always the deepest.
