Is it dangerous/detrimental to train and race with bulimia?

What do you mean "have" bulimia? Being bulimic means that someone chooses to vomit. It isn't like having a cold or having cancer. Why not stop vomitting and try eating a healthy diet?

Why not just… stop binging food? Stop vommiting? Eat normally? Maybe I don’t understand, but how hard can it be to just stop doing those things? Just takes a little willpower and discipline.

Mental health disorders are disorders, not choices. Just like how nobody chooses to have a cold. Or cancer. With bulimia the brain gets thrown off and professional help is needed to fix those imbalances, so it’s not as simple as “just eat and stop throwing up.”

"Mental health" is just a woke excuse. People feel sad and unhappy occasionally, especially when they're stressed. I did too. I got over it.

Hi! Please ignore the idiots on here. Bulimia is a disorder, think of it like having an injury - but to the brain. You would never hope for a broken leg to just go away without treatment, this is the same situation. Go get professional help NOW. They will help you work through it and it's going to be a long road to recovery (months if not years), but you can do it. The longer you wait, the deeper the habits become and the harder to fix. As for training / racing, internet advice can't say much. Some athletes are told to stop training completely because their bodies are already very weak. Others are told to keep training (at lower intensity) while they go through therapy because it might not help to lose all your routine and daily rhythm. And of course, your risk of injury is higher when you don't fuel your body. But whatever it is - please go see a professional and if your coach is an idiot and does not take this seriously (many are from my experience), don't listen.

For those making irresponsible statements on here about "just suck it up" - get lost! Or spend 3 hours researching it. Or live with someone who has bulimia for a month. So angry.

Not at all! I’m responding to the person who claims it’s just a “woke” thing and you’ll “get over it.” same excuse I heard from an athlete I cared deeply about. That was her go to excuse for not getting the help she needed for a litany of mental health issues.

Hi. I struggle too. Had to stay in the hospital for weeks, then inpatient treatment for months because of how severely it impacted my heart. Lmk if you have questions about anything , because our experiences sound very similar
