hey serious question for a second, if youre really a 2:28 guy, Im just curious what are your speed sessions/races like? mile time? 300 meter repeats? things along those lines. or even 5k/10k PRs

shouldn't you be doing your geography homework or something? it's a school night!
Has a sub-elite guy ever led the first several miles of a marathon on a track BEFORE being laped?

I'm really a 2:28 marathoner. I set my PR late last year. I am actually not doing much speed work at all right now, nor was I when I set my PR. My 5k and 10k PRs are 15:04 and 31:14, both of which were set on the track in college. I am 25 now and coming up on 3 years graduated. My marathon training consists mostly of 100+ mile weeks with a hilly long run, a hard fartlek, and a tempo every week. I'm looking for track races this summer and would like to drop below 15 in the 5k. I plan to start speed work in May. I think it will be mostly longer intervals like 10x1000 and 8x800 and then maybe some shorter stuff as I try to peak. I am not running a marathon this year, I've decided. My goal is to qualify for Olympic trials. I am self-coached.

This is actually an awesome idea. I'd definitely throw in $10 or so depending on how good it was. Imagine a guy running in the front with one of the "Is your home XC course RUPP-CERTIFIED?" with a big picture of

I'll pitch in $11 for that!
Please don't destroy the sport!
A) If there really is a way to make money then more than one person at once is soon gonna try it. So then we'll have a race within the race about who gets to front for the first kilometers. Think of it as competing ads running simoultaneously on top of your television screen - annoying ads at that even if you could focus in on just one.
B) Soon enough companies, runners and possibly race organizers will be tied up in court, fighting each other over who has/had the right to do what when and at worse if contracts were unfullfilled because someone only fronted for 0,95 miles instead of 1,0.
C) In about a year all major races will realize the only way to avoid this shit is to let the contenders for victory, and only those, start fifteen minutes ahead of everyone else. Basically destroying forever any chance we'll ever again get to see a surprise Top 10 finisher who's coming from behind with an unforeseen breakthrough performance.
so clever
I second the dude who said start a Kickstarter. Realize if you get the LRC crowd behind you with a funny bib, ala the Rupp-Certified suggestion, you'd get a lot of money. I'd definitely donate to that.
I am still interested in an ad for a major marathon.
Serious offer.
