Some might say that she went out too soon but Chebet would’ve out sprinted her had she not made the move that far out. She’s not going to win the 5,000m at Worlds with people like Tsegay, Hassan, Chebet and the 1,500m runners moving up. Hassan is also going to beat her at the 10,000m if she takes her season seriously. She can move up to the marathon but she doesn’t have the kick in that either which won’t fly nowadays with so many incredible runners in the women’s marathon event. She’s a great runner, she just doesn’t have the winning ways required for titles.
Chebet would’ve out kicked her had she left it too late. Seems like Gidey will always lose out to the big kickers. Just like in Doha, Tokyo and almost Eugene.
You left out the winner. Niyonsaba is going to win both of those races in Paris. Her DSD is even a greater advantage at distance, provided the athlete is properly trained. Notice how she outfinished Kipyegon with ease at 3000 last year. Nobody does that. Likewise she mowed down Monson when it looked time and space impossible.
Niyonsaba has been sandbagging for the bulk of two seasons to accomplish exactly what your post reveals. Nobody is talking about her. Consequently there is no scrutiny to ban DSD athletes at longer distances before Paris. Mission accomplished. She can stumble all over the place in 4th position with 150m remaining and then magically regroup and blow past everyone.
Regarding Gidey, she's very impressive but there's always a degree of fragility about her. Consequently I'm not overly surprised at this. I noted the fragility when she allowed Hassan to get into her head numerous times during the late stages of the Tokyo 10,000.
I'm also not buying her supposed improved kick. That was phony last year given Hassan's weak conditioning and the absence of Niyonsaba. In Olympic situations Gidey cannot win minus considerable late margin.
Yeah I don’t care about Niyonsaba, the second place finishers are always the real winners for me when “she” is racing. Go watch YouTube videos of her interview. She lives like a man, dress like a man, talks like a man yet we are all supposed to suspend our beliefs and think that she doesn’t have advantages over longer distances.
An outcome of a race is always uncertain until the very end, as demonstrated by BEATRICE CHEBET'S VICTORY over Letesenbet GIDEY, the current world record hol...

Two odd posts. Gidey, the reigning 10,000m world champion doesnt have the what is required for titles, and after one of the fastest marathon debuts in history doesn't have what it takes in the marathon either. Her collapse today was spectacular but I didn't realize it meant the end of her career.
Second poster re: Niyonsaba - you're aware WA have sent out a draft doc to national federations proposing an expansion of the testosterone limit to all disciplines not just 400-1500 and cutting that limit in half too? I agree that DSD athletes have an unfair advantage, but WA is quite obviously scrambling to get new regs in place before Paris. Maybe you missed it as it was discussed largely around trans athlete inclusion/exclusion but seems quite obviously targeted at stopping DSD athletes too.
Maybe learn to read better or go back to school? I didn’t realize that I said that this was the end of her career? All I was saying was that she’s a great runner, just not the type to have a bunch of golds to her name. She’ll still be one of the all time greats but there’s clearly a pattern of her coming up short on races with kickers. She hold the world records in the 5,000 and 10,000 yet she only had 1 senior gold medal to her name. She’s one of my favorite runners and she’ll most likely continue to go out and do great things but she’ll probably continue to lose out to big kickers in major races. As for the DSD athletes, in my opinion world athletics is not doing enough to ensure the fairness of our sports. They’ve had plenty of time, just like how they’re not doing enough to stop the Kenyan dopers.

Today her strength failed her, not her speed.
I'd say the utterly misguided (and somewhat superstitious) Ethiopian practice of warming up in track suits, even when it's 36 degrees celcius, is what failed her today.
