Normally, I'm anti-whining, but I can see why some are expressing disappointment. Any venue for a large or important event that requires a majority of the attendees to shuttle in is simply not the right venue. I love PF, but it isn't the right place for a national xc meet due to its accessibility issues. To me, the fact that it was chosen points toward too few of people caring about the sport. It's just like courses that are not the right distance or marked incorrectly.
Disagree. I’ve been to the Phoenix Open golf tournament twice. It’s the most attended golf tournament in the world, drawing 700,000 people per year. The only way to get to it is via shuttle buses. It’s not a big deal to use a shuttle bus.
Exactly! Imagine showing up on the day of the NCAA College Football Playoff or Final Four and expecting tickets to still be available. LOL! Plan ahead or miss out!
Have you ever been to the ncaa xc champs? I’ve been to 15 of them. All of them before this year you could buy a ticket day of. Except Covid year. But ok blame spectators for imagining the course could handle a crowd like every other course has
I’ve been to well over 300 sporting events of various kinds, and I always plan ahead. Just because things have been organized a certain way in the past, there is no guarantee or obligation for it to be done that way again.
It would be nice to understand what the issue is. Saying bussing is the bottleneck makes no sense because I have been to national meets in the past where they had 4 busses running constantly.
Once you see the one lane dirt road that leads into PF you’ll understand.
I was simply challenging the universal statement that “Any venue for a large or important event that requires a majority of the attendees to shuttle in is simply not the right venue.” The success of the Phoenix Open proves that statement is wrong.
If you’re curious, more than 5,000 tickets were sold for the 2023 @NCAATrackField DI Cross Country Championships. That’s more than any of the five previous Championships. #NCAAXC23
Wow, these figures show the previous comments about “low capacity” this year were way off base. Kudos to Vin and UVA for organizing an experience that has generated much more interest than in recent years.
They should be releasing more tickets Friday as each athlete received free tickets for family members. I know a few parents who won't be able to attend so they will given back to host schools.
For those fan boys (and girls) making the trip to cheer on their teammates, pay attention to the website. That's early time you West Region fans!
Proof that name association and a Z versus Z is good for the sport. Although we do understand why the schools insist on school representation. Fans still enjoy one on one match ups.
You know it, those crazy XC fans are going to crash the gates, it’s going to be pandemonium. Vinny says he is personally going to tackle and arrest anybody who tries to get in sans ticket.
