No. Right now, they are slaying the recruiting game and building towards a bright future. It's a big ask to win in your first two years with leftover talent from the previous regime that may/may not fit your training scheme.
That said, if Oregon doesn't win a team XC title or multiple individual distance titles by 2027, someone is getting pink slipped.
A school with ONE major donor paying for those resources. He is calling the shots. He cares about track more than cross country. He loves Jerry and Shalane and will give them time. Don't confuse Oregon with the usual university where the AD is 100% in charge of employment decisions.
I agree with you - the Ducks were terrible this year. They will be loaded for years to come.
True, but if you make the time period the last couple decades, you have to make an exception for all the championships, bowermans and all Americans they have produced.
From afar, I don't feel like Jerry and Shalananaane care that much about Oregon either, even thought that's their main job now. With Shalane it seems to be all about the social media but not the results.

This isn’t football. They have talent now. You don’t make the Oregon roster as a scrub. Jerry isn’t adjusting to his athletes weaknesses and strengths. It’s called basic coaching.
I’m giving the new regime a break here. This class was their first recruiting class and additionally, regarding this years class, Jerry and Shalane got a late start based on when they were officially hired. So far this year, they are doing very well recruiting-wise. They will be back and “relevant” very soon. As for being relevant tho, they haven’t been “irrelevant” lately. The women were ranked #14 last year and were a top 10 team this year. The men were 16th last year and just before that had some amazing mid-distance runners in Hocker, Teare, and Hunter. Admittedly, it’s not the program that the Powell’s built anymore, but that’s why they hired Jerry and Shalane. My opinion is, they’ll be a player again at the NCAA XC meet and they’ll be scoring major points in track via mid/long distance sooner than later…
Great runners like Shalane are too self absorbed to be great coaches.
You know, you got me thinking now: when I think of the people I consider to be "great coaches," they were kind of mid-packers themselves! Lol. Like, they were people who wanted to be great, but were kind of average runners, tbh. Maybe star runners lack the passion to coach? Idk.
there's probs some exceptions though. Don't most star runners go onto other careers, or just retire? What is Ryan Hall doing, lol.
I guess Pascal Dobert was a great runner, and he coached (what's his name) to Olympic bronze.

Tbf when the only guy Oregon sends to NCAAs is an 800 runner it makes it even worse

This. Two good recruiting classes in a row. Plus on the women's side some good transfers. They'll be very relevant this year in track and esp. next year.

Vin Lananna took over a UO cross country program that had finished 6th at the west regional and failed to qualify for nationals the previous season (although they did have an individual qualifier). In his second year, he took a "retooled" roster and won PAC 10s, won the West Region (in a historic year that had 9 teams qualify for nationals), and finished 5th at NCAAs. In years 3 and 4, they won the national championship.
In year two, Jerry/Shalane could only get his squads to finish 3rd at PAC 12s and 7th at the regional. For the record both races had unusually weak fields. A program like with a history and stature like Oregon should never have a year like this. Martin Smith was literally fired for less.
He basically redshirted all the good runners last year and all the freshman this year that he could. The ones left are mostly the old guard from two years ago who will now be gone and had one last chance to really perform. They did not so now he’s going to focus on his gang of milers
