Hassan is a phenomenal athlete and a great story. I was surprised by how many of her competitors seemed genuinely happy for her after the race, that's rare to see! Hard not to root for her; Worlds will be a blast.

Can anyone comment on what she could have run given a more evenly paced run? Sub 4:10?

I'm a big fan of Sifan. But because of the toxic nature of this message board, I rarely post. You get a bunch of unregistered users who claim every good runner is doping. I get tired of seeing it. I can only hope that others will do the same and stop coming on here. It was so exciting to see her joy. I can only pray she doesn't come on this site to see all the morons who will call her a drug cheat.
Other posters will point out that she's really 35 years old.

Quite well said. Thank you.

I believe she ran the best race she could have given her strengths.

I know it is a tough cookie to swallow, but track and field and cycling are ahead of everyone when it comes to doping and microdoping. MLB players just started getting into Microdoping, because the players are not getting caught like they were a few year ago.
I wouldn't be surprised if Sifan is Micro doping, considering who her coach is. Are you going to tell me that Alberto is not experimenting with creams and solutions on his runners to see what he can and cannot get away with? You would be Naive to think so.
Sifan has always been a solid runner, but she has definitely increased her power and ability as runner, from 800 to the half marathon. The last runner with that kind of ability, and who was breaking records and AR all over the place, was Mary Decker, who was also coached by Alberto, and she was also using PEDs.
I would say 60-70 pecent of track and field are doping, and it is the same percentage in cycling. And I don't have a problem with it anymore because it is entertainment. That's it. It means nothing else in the world.

She's a good time trial 1500 runner. But in a sit and kick championship race? No. 5k/10k double will be a safe bet for her. She has really good strength, see her half marathon last year.
So even with an 800 PR of 1:56.81 she she's going to get buried in a sit and kick race? Can you give me some examples of other good time trial 1500 runners?

Not so sure the 1500 will be a sit-and-kick race. We have precedent that Dibaba wants to go from further out. Muir doesn't want to leave it until the last 200. Hassan if she's smart can just dawdle for two laps and run a controlled grinding pace to the finish. Kipyegon might be unbeatable this way, but I think the rest are.

1500 pretty much always becomes a sit and kick at global championships because of the rounds. There is no way that after running two rounds anyone (including Kipyegon, Dibaba, and muir) is going to lead right from the front and let everyone draft off of them making them the defecto rabbit. Thats why the meet record for the world championship 1500 is only 3:58. PRs become irrelevant at championship meets. if you can't run a fast/smart last 800 in a tactical final you are unlikely to medal.
I think you are one of the only few users on here that talks logic reasoning here. Could not agree anymore with this!

I don't think any of them have the mental fortitude to beat Kipyegon. She just came back from having baby and ran 3:59, and just blew Muir away who is having a great season.
Hassan is crazy form, but has to convert that into winning championships.
Dibaba has the speed and talent, and has been great this season. But has lost to Kipyegon in two straight championships.
Simpson will find a way to medal, and Houlihan's style does not stand a chance to me. They are not going to leave until the last 200m. It will always be a 800m burner.

Thanks man. I have my moments, though, when I fall in love with certain runners. I just try to be fair about what I see. But there are some great posters on here, and they know their stuff. The problem is that sometimes we all have our favorites, and become blinded by it. I think I post well 60 to 70 percent of the times, and the other 30 percent I will say something that is far out there... lol. For instance, I have a hard time accepting the fact that Mary Keitany might be losing a step, and Kipsang is no longer a top 3 marathoner. It's tough when your favorite runners start declining.

I think she is phenomenal. She looks really strong and is a threat at any distance she chooses. After setting the WR in the mile, I'm sure she'll throw out the 10k and go for the 1500/5K double in Doha.
Doha 2019 1500m final will look something like:
Faith Kipyegon
Laura Muir
Jenny Simpson
Sifan Hassan
Genzebe Dibaba
Shelby Houlihan
Guday Tsegay
Rababe Arafi
Don't count out Laura Weightman or Gabriala Stafford. Both are running very well right now. If I'm not mistaken Stafford has gotten faster in almost every race she has run this season.
Hassan must be smoking crack if she think she can do the 1500/5k double at Worlds. Not only are both finals on the same day and separated by 30mins apart, but both prelims are on the same day as well!! She wouldn't even pull off a single medal in either one of those events trying to double in them smh

Great, great run.
When Cram said she was ahead of WR pace with a lap to go I couldn't believe he then discounted her chance of the record as she was flying.
.
Look at the splits.

800 UKR LYAKHOVA Olha 2:08.20 1:06.94
1200 NED HASSAN Sifan 3:10.13 1:01.93
Which means she ran the final 409m in 1:02.20

Simpson has all of her global medals. There is just too much talent in the 1500 right now. Fifty-fifty chance she even makes it into the final.

Sifan has always been a solid runner, but she has definitely increased her power and ability as runner, from 800 to the half marathon. The last runner with that kind of ability, and who was breaking records and AR all over the place, was Mary Decker, who was also coached by Alberto, and she was also using PEDs.
I would be surprised if she were "only" microdoping, considering that facts she was already flagged with a suspicious ABP in March 2016, then willingly chose NOP and improved even further.
Decker wasn't exactly microdosing either.

I hope you realize this is exactly what people were saying in almost each season/year she won all of her medals in. Maybe that's why she has gotten the number of medals she received... people like you counting her out in the early season and she just sneaks on through when you least expect it. Rookie mistake.

This. And Kiprop was flagged as suspicious as well. Plus Sleazy Sal’s experiments with AndroGel make me think that they’re doing something more than manipulating RBC. I can’t really get excited about this new WR, because I’m suspicious of any runner with the NOP.

The first split is for 409 meters, her last split is for 400 meters. I would think that you knew that.
