Lyles' season has been interesting. Every time we're about to annoint him as the greatest we've ever scene, he loses. First to Norman in the 200 and now to Gatlin in the 100.
Rank Lane Nat Name Time Wind: +0.3
1 3 USA GATLIN Justin 9.91
2 5 USA LYLES Noah 9.92
3 7 USA RODGERS Michael 10.01
4 2 RSA SIMBINE Akani 10.04
5 6 USA GILLESPIE Cravon 10.14
6 8 FRA VICAUT Jimmy 10.17
7 1 CIV CISSÉ Arthur 10.25

The benefits of doping last for several years. Too bad Lyles finished "second."

Lyles even had a good start

some juice left indeed

It was a bit overrated by Cram tbh. He had a good reaction I think, but was still a ways back at 40 meters in. The 100 is not really his event, and he didn't have his best stuff today. Still to be .01 behind Gatlin is nothing really to scoff at as Gatlin is in the mid 9.8s this season. This was a run-of-the-mill performance for Lyles like running a 19.7-19.8. Still think Coleman is far and away the favorite to win this year unless Gatlin has another gear.

This was very close to Lyles’ basic SB, so it wasn’t bad at all. He is not supercharged like CC, which is nice to see.
Gatlin ran a competent race, enough ftw. Oduduru is the one who fell apart, completely. Vicaut also looked pedestrian, but Oduduru makes me wonder if the Caribbeans were right when they questioned the accuracy of the timing at NCAA’s.
Lyles has more. He never really “got going” in this one. Gatlin’s turnover was not what it was at Pre, he has also been better. Kind of a meh result from two guys not performing at their peak. Ditto Simbine.
Rodgers was his usual solid self, and Cisse tried. -
We all know Coleman is the best 100m runner in the world. However, if he does not keep it together in the last 30 meters, which is he weakness, Gatlin will be there. He is too strong of a starter and finisher.
Coleman is the greatest starter in the world, probably in history, but he still has finishing issues. If he masters that, he can run 9.70s or even 9.69, and he will dominate this entire era.
But Gatlin aint going nowhere. He will medal, either silver or gold ( if coleman does not keep it together)> -

If you believe the Pre clock and wind gauge, he would have been just about 9.70 with max allowable wind, right now—and he didn’t have a huge finish in that race.
Perfect conditions, max wind, top form with his best finish, and he will go mid-9.6.
I can’t believe I just said that. -

It's not so much of Gatlin having another gear. It's more about can Coleman keep it together in the last 30m? So far, this year, his finishing has been excellent. Running 200m is paying off. However, well all know that Gatlin does not make mistakes, so If coleman makes an error, Gatlin will be there.
Lyles depends too much on his closing speed and still has not corrected his terrible starts. He can get away with that at 200m, by turning it on at the bend. You can't get away with that at 100m. The race is too short, and we did see Norman beat at 200m as well. Kid needs to fix his starts. -
Correction 37 year old not 36.

So if Armstrong was still cycling we should be celebrating his wins?
-
shouldn't the title of this thread be "36yr old Justin Gatlin still *on the juice!! 9.91 win over Noah Lyles' 9.92."
let's not act like he's really been clean at any point since at least 2006 -

Perfect analogy -
watched colemans oslo 100m....i was wondering how he was looking this year compared to previous. with his fast turn over and bad leg for it was only a matter of time before the hammy blew out. but this is what i noticed on his oslo was good turn over instead of his knees bowing out and putting brutal strain on the hammys. he looks a bit of a gay/galtin combo now instead of a roided out SEC football/semi sprinter whos quads are way to strong vs their hammys and run with bad leg form.

a few i can think of based on bad leg form and injured hammys
auburns coby miller
tennesses leonard scott
shawn crawford, although i dont think he ever hurt his hammy it always looked like he was about to blow it up
i think bruny surin had that bad leg form, wouldnt be surprised if he blew out his hammy
