How much more blasphemous could this have been?
400m runner Kahmari Montgomery (formerly of Houston/Mizzou) false started during the 400m in Monaco today.
A second gun went off immediately and the runners were called back. The crowd must have been extremely energetic because the runners in the outside lanes kept running. One of the men ran 150m, one of them ran 300m, and Jones (University of Texas) completed the entire 400m before noticing everybody standing at the starting lines.
Anybody who has ever ran the quarter knows that your legs are practically gone by the end of the race. Montgomery wasn't disqualified and I don't think it was fair. You don't get any significant advantage by false starting in a 400m so its basically pointless. Because of him, two runners lost an opportunity to win a DL meet and someone else finished dead last.
Should the IAAF go back to allowing everyone 1 false start before a DQ?
Who are you most excited about seeing compete at USAs? (for me: Allyson Felix & Noah Lyles)
