Webb ran 3:53 in high school, loads of college kids break 4 or it's equivalent every year.

Just in Portland there are a handfull of americans who can currently beat him in the mile, then add Eugene, then add the rest of the country. There are just a ton of guys who can run between 3:52 and 4:00 now, and several who can go under 3:52.
Unless he thought he was a 3:4X miler/3:32 1500 runner right now or in the next few months it makes no sense to hang on.
Always thought he could've run a great 3000 or 5000 and that's where his future could go, but it didn't.
