I wasn't as fast as them in HS but certainly trained less than them too.
I went to a mid-tier Ivy and ran significantly better my freshman year than my senior year of HS. It was a slightly worse school but I was in a more rigorous major so it cancels out (and Stanford has a ton of grade inflation anyway so I was probably working harder).
What seems to be happening to them, in my opinion, is one of 2 things:
1. They're drinking / partying a ton and aren't recovering
2. The 'fire' is gone - the don't seem like they're going to be the top runners in the college class of 2027, but they were some of the top runners in their grade and already signed NIL deal(s). What's the drive anymore if they're not intrinsically motivated?
They mentioned in a recent interview that the approach in high school was more professional in that they got consistent sleep and home cooked meals. Now they each have roommates who keep more normal-person hours and they eat in the cafeteria, so rest and nutrition have both changed negatively, possibly effecting their progressions.

Don’t even start on ts man, if they run bad it’s not because of eating at their athletes only cafeteria and having roommates who sleep less than then…
I am not trying to be a negative person but Leo and Lex have got to understand they where on top of the world as high school runners. They will either accept the fact that they are now mediocre at best and use that as motivation to train and get back to the top of the results page or they wont. They are either mentally strong or they are not. I think it will take them a couple of seasons but should start having results by 2024 XC. If they are not interested in a crazy career I'd consider an NAU transfer and that's if NAUs coach is even interested.
And before you say it’s practicing a kick, no race - even the 10000 which they don’t have a (Q) for - won’t go at that pace. And even if it did, closing in a 58 is weak
Lads, you've been trolled. This was a Stanford vs Cal dual meet...
They raced the 1500 and 3k along with Ky Robinson, and then Leo tripled back in the 800 to get a point.
Robinson - 3:43, 8:50
Lex - 3:48, 8:50
Leo - 3:44, 8:50, 1:57
They finished 1,2,3 in the 3k and 1,2,5 in the 1500. Do you think it's possible....wait for it....that these were not all out time trial performances?
Yes this is all true- but for someone who actually watched the meet there was a very vast distinction between Robinson's perceived effort and the Young brothers. I'm not hitting the panic button yet based off these results but they both looked to be visibly working hard to finish while Robinson was floating and looked effortless. Leo especially was straining and bobbing his head at the end of the 800 I think it was and it did not look easy - which after tripling may be the only cause. Maybe they are in a heavy training block? Maybe the triple was too much? Maybe like Nico they just look uncomfortable when they run? I guess my point is watch the races to get a better idea of how things went.

And Robinson is a 2x NCAA champ who's run 7:36 and 13:06. You are not seriously trying to argue that they should look as good as he does at the same pace, are you?
