I don't think Efraimson will beat Cain in the mile, but who knows.
She is already very humble and a seemingly very sweet girl.
Cain would lose in a 3k. But AlSal won't race her there. Just like he wouldn't race her at NXN. Could you imagine is professional media darling losing to a REAL high school runner?

LOL. Great run by Efraimson. I am still in shock from the result and was going nuts watching it last night. In the Cain vs. Efraimson thread, I stated that if Efraimson could stay with 15 seconds of Cain in a mile, then it would be a very good indoor result (the old record is 13+ seconds slower than Cain's PR). Clearly, I was dead wrong. She will likely only be 4-7 seconds back.
In a 3000m, I would imagine that the margin would be larger. I simply cannot picture those Oiselle girls pulling away from Cain like they did to Efraimson. I understand that many of you did not watch the race, but Efraimson was not competitive for the win. She was right on the rabbit (who did a very nice job) with the pack in tow through the first 1500 or so. The top 3 easily separated from her when the real racing began. I am not taking away from Efraimson at all, but there is NO WAY that would have happened to Cain. She would've dominated that field over the last lap. To me, a 9:02 win over Treniere Moser is more impressive than getting beaten handily by Amanda Winslow, Lauren Penney, and Jessica O'Connell with a 9:00.
I don't think Cain will lose to Efraimson in a mile race. I think Cain is looking for the WJ record, but can Efraimson get the HS record? I think not this year but maybe next.
I do think the Efraimson could get the 5k HS outdoor and indoor record this year.
Note: I don't think that any marks by Cain this year should count for a HS record.

Well it depends on the splits. If Cain was all out in that 9:02, then no it is not better than Efraimson's 9:02. If Cain finished with a faster kick than Efraimson, then sure. But without knowing such information, you can't say whose performance is better.
What if Cain loses? Both their careers will continue to develop. What would you expect to happen?

Didn't Cain just beat a few professionals last year?

It would be quite a shock to see her lose that race
I think pretty much everybody thought that Cain's HS records would last a very long time and it is very possible her indoor mile record (and maybe 1500 on the way) will only last 1 year.

no way Alexa can match Cain in a race. I highly doubt she will hit Cain's mile time from last year either, although I could certainly see a 4:30 - 4:32 out of Alexa indoors this year and maybe going for Cain's record next year. Can Cain still set HS records this year? It seems like she should be able to, as far as I was aware as long as you are in high school you can set records, like people who don't have a team can set records, unless there is some specific provision about going Pro that changes things.
if Freddy Adu were to score the most goals ever while at high school age (he went pro for soccer while in high school) would his record count?
Cain would go home and count her millions in running earnings. Efraimson would go home and do her biology homework.
Where's the "like" button?

Seriously, this could be one of the best things for the sport and I am a Cain fan. However, I see nike stepping in and acquiring Efraimson and keeping them in separate races thus ruining the sport even more.
We need more legit rivalries in the sport and deserve to see races and not time trials. Only so many records can be broken, great competition is key.

Millions? I bet Cain has homework too.
I must admit why wouldn't Efraimson be offered a pro contract. She clearly is at least as talented as Cain.
1. Better form (Cain will never have form as good as Efraimson and there is a chance Al Sal will screw up Mary trying to achieve the form)
2. No Al Sal coaching (although her coach is most likely excellent)
3. No Al Sal resources (sports psychologist, nutritionist, physical therapists, thyroid doctor, etc.)
4. No Al Sal gimmicks (underwater treadmills, cyro chambers, cold leg wraps, pollen masks, all of the unknown gimmicks)
From my perspective if Mary Cain warrants a contract so does Alexa Efraimson. Something tells me it will never come to fruition.

You do realize Cain is still going to HS in Bronxville, not living at the Nike Oregon Project?

For practical purposes, a record is a record if the most credible record-keeping authority says it's a record and applies objectively consistent principles in doing so. It's not a philosophical issue to which there is one and only one "true" answer.
Track and Field News is probably the most commonly used reference for high school records. I don't know if T&FN has taken a position on Cain's current season but, in the past, they have been very flexible in recognizing marks by anyone who has not yet graduated from high school, as well as recognizing records set during the summer immediately following graduation.
There has been no requirement that a runner be competing for a high school team in order to set a record recognized by T&FN. For example, Francie Larrieu and Mary Decker did not compete for high school teams when they set their records.
Given that background, I don't see that Cain's "turning pro" should be a critical distinction disqualifying her from setting HS records through the upcoming summer. Of course, her marks will not be recognized as any kind of high school federation records, but that distinction as always existed between federation records and T&FN HS records.
