This one is so good we're starting the thread early. Olympic silver Josh Kerr vs Olympic bronze Yared Nuguse chasing the world record in the Wanamaker Mile.
Olympic gold Cole Hocker vs Olympic bronze Grant Fisher in 3000.
Meet is live on NBC from 4-6pm eastern Saturday Feb 8

Is this Nuguse's first race of the year? Any info on his fitness going into this?
Nuguse and Kerr's first race of the year. They both say they're in great shape, and the last two years they've both been in great shape. Hocker and Fisher also say they're in great shape, and last year they were both in great shape.
Hyped to watch both WRs go down tomorrow to Nuguse and Fisher. Hocker said this is the best training he's ever had though so kinda expecting him to just fly by Fisher at the end like Kerr did last year, but I know Fisher is gonna be doing the hard work so I'm rooting for him.

This is going to be an incredible meet! Kerr vs. Nuguse in the Wanamaker Mile and Hocker vs. Fisher in the 3000m—pure excitement. Can’t wait to see if a record falls! My prediction: Nuguse edges Kerr. What’s yours?
I've suggested multiple times that LetsRun should figure out how to get in on track gambling. None of the big sports betting platforms care because... well, it's track. But there is a niche here who would be all over it. A revenue-generator for sure.
Any way to watch the meet before the broadcast window?

The scariest comment leading into this meet was when Hocker said he was feeling perfect and 100%. I expect he is going to crush it today.
As a runner, most of us are usually dealing with something even when we are in peak fitness. It seems like people are always either in a huge block of training (tired) or slightly dinged up. Not Hocker. That has to be a confidence booster. Honestly, I can't even imagine what it is like to train 100% pain free...
Here is the quote:
"this was his first time feeling “amazing” and “extremely healthy.” His confidence is at a sky-high level fresh off his 3:27 performance in Paris, and he thinks a sub-7:30 is “well within his range.”

Agreed. And we know Grant is in great shape.
AR in the 3000 virtually guaranteed. Can they get the WR??
really apprecizte the translator here for Tanaka pre-meet. can't wait for this 3000m
Likewise.
Gebreselama/Hull is a fascinating strength vs speed match-up. TG holds 14:18/29:48/1:05 marks. JH clocked 2:00/3:50/14:43. Their respective 3k PBs are 8:24.40 / 8:24.39. First race of the year for both. Gebreselama won the RAK Half last winter while Hull completed a full Indoor season in 2024. First race of 2025 for each tonight. Imperceptible edge to Hull, imo.
The giddy loud mouthing re Cranny/Hiltz/Houlihan being locks for Team USA's 3k squad in China may prove to have been in haste. Morgan has found her 8:30 form of 2023 and those of us who have followed Markezich's development the past three years will hardly be shocked if the clutch OAC newgener drops an 8:3X-low this evening.
Like the 1500m and 5000m, collegiate women's 3000m running is also in dynamic recalibration, with 8:4X quickly becoming the new 8:5X. In 2025, multiple women should unsurprisingly join Tuohy in the NCAA 8:3X club--the first being Hilda Olemomoi tonight.
Expect massive PBs from Donaghu and Jennings. From Wayment and Andrews, no result—great, poor or middling—would shock me.
