What is the 4:08 Sarah Billings doing in that 1500m? And 7:59 Callum Davies doing in the 3000m? Can stay in Australia to get competition with those times.
Last year her first race she finished 2nd but it was in a 3K (8:38) and losing to Niyonsaba narrowly. 4:02 and 3rd would indicate something is amiss in training.
Don't you think she wants to ease back into the flow of things by taking it relatively easy? Plus she isn't race sharp. I'm still going with a 4.02 or thereabouts time.
Huh? She hasn’t lost a 1500 to anyone except Sifan Hassan since 2016.
In 2022 her first 1500 was 3:52.59 on 5/28
In 2021 her first 1500 was a 3:53.91 on 6/10, after a 1:58.26 season opener (win) on 5/28
In 2020 her (limited) season opener was a 2:29.15 K on 8/14
In 2019 her season opener and first race after pregnancy was a 3:59.04 (win) on 6/30
In 2017 her season opener was a 3:59.22 (win) on 5/13
In 2016 her season opener was a 3:56.82 (win) on 5/14
In 2015 her season opener was a 14:31 5000 on 5/30 (still her PR)
In 2014 her season opener was a 8:23.55 at the Doha DL on 5/9 (still her PR)
In 2013 her international season opener was a 3:56.98 1500 at the Doha DL on 5/10
Faith Kipyegon, the GOAT 1500 woman, has consistently been able to perform at a high level from early May to September. She doesn’t toe the line unless she’s able to compete up to her standards. Why would we logically expect her to run slower at this meet than she did when she was 19?
I think she’ll be the decisive winner in sub-4 - whether that means 3:53 or 3:59 depends largely on how the race and pacing play out.
EDNAREK, Kenneth 20.37 19.68 CAN BROWN, Aaron 20.00 19.95 CAN DE GRASSE, Andre 20.41 19.62 LBR FAHNBULLEH, Joseph 20.14 19.83 USA KERLEY, Fred 20.32 19.76 USA KING, Kyree 20.00 USA NORMAN, Michael 19.70 DOM OGANDO, Alexander 20.22 19.91
I totally glossed over the men’s 200, until I just saw this list.
Another super-cool lineup! I think that Bednarek, Brown, and Norman might be the only ones who will really drive for the win.
ADG, laying low, in training.
Fahnbulleh, just cruising, not pushing.
Kerley, not his main event, just competition training.
King, meh.
Ogando, wildcard.
We’ll see who can run the fastest relaxed 200. Fahnbulleh and Kerley seem pretty good at that sort of thing, as does ADG when in shape.

If one of the Ethiopians arrives razor sharp and in 3:5x-mid shape, maybe the Kenyan is 2nd best on the day. Could a healthy Kipyegon lose control of a race slower than 3:58? Anything's possible, but I expect something similar to this:

I’m personally excited to see how Zoe Hobbs from New Zealand does in the Woman’s 100m. She ran a PB of 10.97 for her season opener this year and took the Australasian record down along with it. Her improvement has been out of sight over this last year. I don’t think she will cause any trouble for Sha’Carri quite yet but I wouldn’t write that off as a possibility over the next year or two.
So if Clayton Murphy finishes in the back half of this sub-par 800m field can we stick a fork in him? His recent results have been so poor. Needs to drop the vlogs, because it's getting embarrassing.
I don’t think Steiner will finish last because I feel like she’s a reliable gamer who always performs well for her ability. She’ll finish in the 4-6 range.
Callum Davies could be in over his head, but he won the 1500/5k double at Australian nats (of course, without their best runners present) and that 7:59 was over 2 years ago (when he was 21), so he should lop a big chunk off that PB.
The 3k is really exciting. I’m hoping someone like Aregawi or Girma is gunning for something super fast, to pull the field to a slew of fast times.
We’ll also get an early glimpse of Kipyegon’s WR prospects this year.
Good point about Steiner but I just feel that the 100 is not her thing. She's great in the 4x100, though. If this were the 200 I would say that Steiner would be right there with Jackson but many feel that Jackson would be in a league of her own this season in the 200.
I am wondering if Davies is going there as a pacer.
Yes its ranking vs racing. I think Steiner is up against a lot of folks better than her. BUT, she is reliable and some one or two will have an off race and she will get 4th or 5th.

Maybe age is the enemy? Because otherwise yes she is heads and shoulders above the best freaks of nature in the world ...consistently. Not sus at all.

I can’t stand those TRP videos. I clicked on it, watched about the 1st 40 seconds or so, and that was it. They’re so annoying.
He went back to a 200 from 2019. Since then, Steiner has gotten better at the 200. She is better than SCR over 200 but at 100, Steiner is still not at Richardson’s level and may never be.
Those TRP vids always have too much hype. This is not going to be a race of Richardson vs Steiner. This is going to be a bunch of fantastic sprinters vs each other. If anything, it’s Jackson vs Richardson vs Asher-Smith. That’s the top 3, in any order, IMHO. I am favoring Jackson or Richardson FTW, though.
Not going to happen. If I knew you I would bet you.
Bump this up to 200 and Abby would have a shot vs Jackson but this is Shericka’s year and she is in a league of her own at 200.
If Steiner goes 10.87, Jackson will go 10.67.
Steiner will lose the race in the first 5m. She has, so far, not great block clearance and early drive positioning. She does some things very well, but other things not so well--although I have seen her execute a beautiful drive while starting off a 200!
And SCR, the 100m could be her thing. I don't like her in the 200, but that extreme front-side action will propel her in the 100. I think that the 100 is her sweet spot. It will be interesting to see how her 2nd half matches up against those of Jackson and Steiner. Hopefully they will be close in the race so that comparison will be easy, but I think that Steiner will already be behind by the halfway point.
So, do they measure any kind of real splits at these DL meets?
Maybe age is the enemy? Because otherwise yes she is heads and shoulders above the best freaks of nature in the world ...consistently. Not sus at all.
Do you really think the women's 1500 is "the best freaks of nature in the world?" Just noting that Ethiopian women have typically been her biggest competition, and the participation rates there are going way up of late as is the depth in middle distances. Kipyegon is a prodigy - two World Junior XC titles, 4th at age 16. Do you say this about every athlete that dominates an event?
Cofil was announced for this meet a while ago, but is not on the start lists. (she has also been extremely quiet on social media since January..)
I wonder if the new regulations have something to do with this.
It's a theory, but she competed in a 300 after the regulations were announced, and if she'd been deemed DSD she would have been ineligible for the 400 last year.
