Congrats on joining the sub 13 club!
Jakob’s been real quiet since Coop finished…
He's a 3:32 guy (at worst, expect that to get a lot faster this year), and he's never made a US 5k team, while he was the 2022 US 1500m champ. Is he gonna go for both teams again this year? Who's got a better shot at the 5k team than him? Fisher for sure, but Woody and Nico aren't 3:32 guys (and Nico is probably sticking to 10k anyway). Klecker is out. Nur stomped the field last year, but he hasn't looked quite on his game this year.
Ben > Jerry
Daddy Cooper is insane, Jerry is literally crying right now, Ben is him SOVA RUNNING lets freaking gooo
Ninth place, Wooooo
I’d say most people probably were like poor Cooper just wrong place, wrong time as far as making a 1500/5000 team. But right now he looks a better bet to make the 5000 team than Nur or Klecker. Hard to say on Woody who never races. 1500 still a tough one, but certainly a stronger position than before.
Great PR. Still no where near a medal contender for the US, and he is a 1500 guy I guess
Just run a 4:09 mile back to back to back. Then tack on another .1 mile at same pace.
And finish in 9th place.
The elites live in a different world than the rest of us.
Looking forward to @rojo having to walk back his snarky comments on the podcast about Cooper and Hocker having to 'put on their big boy pants' because they not going to make a decent field for people travelling to the race

Klecker isn’t good so that’s not saying much. Woody is a complete wild card

Most would take 53rd place for a 12:54. Do less.
Always said here that he was a 5000m runner, and not a 1500m guy. Very obvious.
Teare is better than all of our 5K guys except Fisher (Nico is still only 21 yrs old). In a Trials type race, Teare is the HUNTER in the 5000. In the 1500, he is the HUNTED.

To be fair, Cooper beat one runner who traveled from overseas. Cole didn’t beat any.

I posted this in another thread but will repost here.
I'm not sure why everyone is going ga-ga over Teare after this 12:54. It's certainly encouraging but the reality is 1.42 seconds behind FIsher. At the last Trials, if you were 0.13 behind Fisher, you wouldn't have made the team. In fact, in that race, Teare was closer to Fisher than he was last night (1.07 seconds back) and he didn't make the team.
I don't care about their 1500 pbs. I think based on track record you have to take Kincaid over Teare if it's totally tactical (don't think Fisher would be that stupid to let it go that tactical).
Then there is still Nur, Young, Blanks etc. But the nightmare scenario and the wildcare for all of these guys is Nuguse. If I'm all of these guys, I'd be very worried that Nuguse runs the 5000 for kicks and giggles after making the 1500 team. In a tactical 5000 at the US level, he might end up being like Jakob is at the world level.
Now Imagine how YOU would have run and what time YOU would have run had YOU been in the race...bet it would not have been 9th
This is what I thought Jerry was going to have him running. Actually, 12:50 is what I thought he would run with Jerry after a couple years. Strength from Jerry didn't hurt when he then went back to a coach who actually tends to keep his guys healthy and races them. Cooper Teare has a chance to make a lot of 5000m teams in his career. With Nuguse, Hocker, Kessler, and some other guys, 1500 will be tough for Teare but 3:32 and 12:54 are a good sign.
Why are you comparing current Fisher/Teare to the 2021 field? Even if you do, Teare is nearly 20s faster than he was in 2021, and was only 1s off the team in 2021 behind Chelimo, Kincaid, and Fisher. Chelimo went on to medal at the Olympics, but hasn't shown that form since then. What kind of track record are you using to take Kincaid over Teare in a tactical race? The 2021 trials? Teare was the 2022 US 1500m champ in a 3:43 race. I agree that I don't think Fisher lets it get that tactical, but even if he did, I still take Teare.
I've thought some about Nuguse doing the 5k. He seemed pretty against it after BU, but even if it's a 13:40s race, Teare would have to worry about Woody and Nuguse. He's outkicking Fisher in a slow race every time, and he's probably outkicking Woody too. You don't have to care about 1500 pbs, but 1500 pbs matter more than 5k pbs if the race is tactical and it turns into a mile race with a 2 mile warmup.
I don't know how you can say on one hand that you don't care about 1500 pbs, then say you're worried Nuguse runs the 5k even though he hasn't shown any particular prowess at the 5k. You're going off of his 1500 success and nothing else. Especially when comparing him to Jakob at Worlds, who has won two years in a row because he's the best miler in the field, and the field lets it turn into a mile race.
Nuguse hates the 5000m and will not run it at Trials. Listen to his actual words. 3:43 gave him carte blanche to be a 1500m guy the rest of his career. 12:54 leapfrogs a host of American legends, BK (12:58 AR), Ritz (12:56 AR), Solinsky (12:55), Rupp (12:58), Teg (12:58), Centro (13:00), Lomong, Paul Chelimo! (12:57), and even Klecker (12:54.99). The shoes are worth 5-8 seconds in the 1500m, I would guess. This is still very strong for someone who thinks he is a miler. But it's irrelevant that he was further behind Grant Fisher than the Trials Qualifiers last year because this was a time trial style race, not an American Trials jog fest to 2M.
The 5000m trials will be interesting, though, because this will be our best field ever by a long shot, despite the apparent decline of Paul Chelimo! Graham Blanks, if healthy, should be fit. He is the dominant NCAA xc champion and ran 13:03 with a flying finish. Nico Young is now a 3:34/12:57/26:52 guy with good closing speed and confidence. Cooper Teare is a 3:32/12:54 guy. Klecker has broken 12:55. Kincaid has run 12:51. Nur is on the rise and just hit the standard for a second time this year. Grant Fisher ran 12:51 indoors, just ran 12:53.3 and is feeling very good. Morgan Beadlescomb ran 13:03 indoors and should make the final. Cole Hocker just ran 12:58 and would be dangerous in a sit and kick affair. Likely, Fisher will make it a fast last mile and that is it. Parker Wolfe could also figure a bit in the final as he has looked outstanding.
