Why it is so amazing that Dibaba can run 3:50? Shannon Rowbury ran 3:56. She grew up in San Francisco doing Irish step dance. She grows up in Ethiopia at altitude and with sisters to emulate, doesn't she run even faster? And isn't it possible that Dibaba has better genes than Rowbury?

And, as so many others have pointed out, every world record by definition is something no one has ever seen before.

I guess everyone who ever set the world record has been dirty. The true human potential for the mile must be 3:59.4 and 4:45--Roger Bannister and Diane Leather. Everyone else has been cheating (and maybe even Diane Leather--she went from 5:02 to 4:45 in two years--suspicious!)

Simpson has looked a little off in the last 100 for the past 2 races. She still ran a great time, and being the front runner of her pack most of the race.

I just read on flotrack that Emma Coburn has been sick. Maybe something is going around, maybe she's peaking for the Worlds.

and Dibaba... just awesome. She tried this strategy in Stockholm but she died, now the 3:54 and 3:50 back to back, Dibaba stayed strong to the finish.

Even if Dibaba is doping, I'm happy to see Yunxia's time off the list. In 1993, Junxia and Yunxia must have been the most doped athletes of all times. For those who don't know, in Junxia's 10,000 meter word record, run at the same meet, her last 5k and 3k broke the world records at that time (but were not recognized). There were many other suspicious circumstances surrounding the meet. The 1,500 was not quite as ridiculous, but it is definitely suspicious by association.

Equating Dibaba's run the Yunxia's on speculation about doping based on nothing but the fact that Dibaba ran a fast time is completely unfair.

Like I said above Komen ran 7.20 for 3000m and had a 1500m PR of 3.29. El G 3.26 and 7.23. So Komen was running his 1500m splits 11 seconds slower and El G 15 seconds slower. Dibaba is higher quality 5000m runner than El G in relative terms but probably slightly better 1500m runner in relative terms than Komen, So I think she will give away 13 seconds per 1500m which will giver a time of. Wait for it . Mmmmmmmmmm 8.06. Ok it will be hard but certainly possible if not more than likely.

Just recently they found - by close study of various intermediate times - that women running slower than men. I don't have the link to the study, so please trust me! 17 seconds - for ex. - will give her a trime of 8:14.

Her number fell off before the race started at 1.38. Unfortunately this means she has been DQ'd.

Completey fair if she is a cheater........watch, she won't show up for the Olympics where they do in fact check for epo....the Euro meets must do the same.......

Agreed. My best races were the times it felt almost effortless. Few and far between for sure but magical when it comes together.
