So it is expected to have 5000 in attendance … arriving by shuttle buses. The event promises to be spectacular on a challenging farmland course. The NCAA and the UVA led by Vin Lananna and Carter Olander have done a tremendous job, ably supported by an experienced team, all intent on providing a lasting, positive experience for the student athletes, coaches, parents and grandparents.
With great story lines and thrilling races it will indeed be well worth the wait to board a shuttle bus!

Please PLEASE pass the word to the media company (ESPN?) to try and go split-screen when they do drone shots during the race. We don’t want to miss what is going on up-front when they break for a drone shot (unless they can do drone close-ups.)

I was very encouraged by the ACC network coverage of the ACC championship

For 2023? The coverage for 2022 was bad, with several far-away, over-head drone shots breaking away from the live-action going on up-front.
There are so many possible xc course sites in the Charlottesville, VA area. It is shocking to me that they got nationals when they chose a site with no parking and a narrow road limiting the number of shuttles, and hence, had to radically restrict attendance. What happened to judging bids by the fundamentals of the site?

to be fair, these venues are chosen years in advance. I doubt the people who picked this site thought in a million years an NCAA cross country race could possibly sell out.

compared to the espn coverage of the 2021 race at the venue this was heads and shoulders better - no loss of signal in wooded area, minimal use of overhead drones as I recall.

It was nice to have overall, but I meant ‘bad’ specifically with regard to the drone shots they kept cutting away for, missing action up-front.
(And their announcers were huge NC State homers, but I digress. The one guy, Olglevy, was suggesting Tuohy should remain in college rather than go pro. I wouldn’t doubt he reads this board, lol. But maybe that point-of-discussion was on the more recent 2023 broadcast. I think those two may have done both 2022 and 2023.)
This is absolutely ridiculous. This should have been entirely disqualifying for them to host the meet. Never seen this before for cross-country in my LIFE.
Sellouts are par for the course at the College Football Playoffs and Final Four. It’s nice to finally see cross country sell out like football and basketball.

It's probably a humongous area like a battlefield or golf course.
Can they really keep people out?
They will probably limit access up the road off the main drag to the 10 people who live in there
This site has no road frontage of its own, just a narrow driveway off the dead end of a narrow road. To run in from any other direction you’d have to run down a long private road, then sprint across someone’s lawn and through the woods. Don’t forget people down there have guns.
The river appears to be lightly defended though, kayaking in is probably your best bet.
If you do decide to make a run for it, the best route of attack looks to be from the northwest down a road called Reas Ford Lane. You’ll need to run across a series of fields, some woods, a deep gully, and past a place called “Panorama Natural Burial”. Just beware, if you do get caught, these people know how to make your body disappear.
