I would consider your "thesis," if not for the fact that it is well known there are a lot of freaking racist ahole trumpdumsters on this site...

Surely you jest...Rupp has absolutely no chance at the podium in the Olympics. The talent since his last Olympics medal placing is much deeper. Consider the number of sub 2:04 marathoners now compared to then. Rupp will be beat by at least 10 Africans in the Olympics...

I’m guessing there were plenty of similar posts in 2016 ahead of the Olympic marathon. Not saying he’s definitely going to podium, but based on what he just threw down on a pretty tough course I would be shocked if he is not in the top ten in Tokyo.
Rupp just ran the easiest looking 2:09 I've ever seen. He was toying with everyone. It looked like a training run for him not a race. Even if he's off the special sauce he still has a decent chance when he actually races for real. The rest of the field looked terrible and Walmsley proved why he's an ultra guy.
Just looking through the results and saw a name unfamiliar to me:
Martin Hehir in 6th place (2:11:29)
Based on an older Runners World article sounds like he might be going to medical school....while training to go sub-2:12 on that course??! Mad respect!

I’m confused—are they U.S. citizens or Kenyan citizens? Because last time I checked if they are U.S. citizens then three AMERICANS made the team. Reminds me of when Meb won the Boston Marathon in 2014 and dopes were saying he wasn’t really an American—even though his family moved here when he was like 12 and he never ran at all until he moved here. Troll on...
You know what is even better? Rupp beating him EASILY in LA. And even better than that? The smugness of Mebs face when Galen won AGAIN today.

Walmsley didn't go to ultras because he wasn't good enough at the marathon. That was his FIRST marathon he has run and only 21 of the best marathoners in the country beat him. Maybe all those guys that beat him should jump in comrades and see how they do. The winnner gets over 36k.

If we are bringing jest into the equation, then Rupp will be laughing his way to the bank after he WINS olympic GOLD in Tokyo.

$36K is less than what the third place finisher at the New York Marathon receives ($40K)—and that doesn’t include appearance fees that many of the top runners receive just for showing up (which I am guessing Comrades does not offer). As I said in an earlier post, it would be idiotic for any of the top US marathoners to race an ultra.
I am not pro- or anti-Walsmley—I think the fact he even qualified is impressive. That said, there were plenty of people on this forum that swore he would be top ten and some who even thought he would podium. And he didn’t even come close. So the fact he may or may not be able to beat the top U.S. marathoners in an ultramarathon is meaningless.
yeah but Galen is a freakin science experiment, so there’s that
Sally Kipyego did not seem to be wearing the Next% or Alphafly, but it was a Nike shoe. It looked lower profile. Was it the upcoming 5k targeted racing flat with zoom x?
Wanted to buy
Nike Alphafly men’s 11.5
Anyone consider selling theirs?
Email me if interested in selling, username is my email address
Thanks,
Scott

Actually in other pictures it looks like it could be the Alphafly. I’m not sure..hers look lower than others to me.
I know I would love it! As an AA female marathoner (2:48) it needs to happen. It has to start with parents, school and club teams and coaches. We all don’t have to be sprinters! The problem is no one is introducing young AA boys and girls to middle distances. We’ve been told from a young age we can only sprint and that’s false. Where as, you look at how coaches treat young white kids and the sky is the limit for them. They are told they can do whatever distance they want. I was also a swimmer so my parents obviously didn’t follow that train of thought. I just have a hard time seeing other countries represent the US in the Olympics. I know it’s not not a very PC thing for me to say but I said it.

No, I totally want to watch Hutchings complain about shoes instead of the actual race. ?
Actually Tim Hutchings made a compelling argument against the cheater shoes = the meteoric rise in ALL performances since the advent of the cheater shoe.
I would say , the Nike engineers are average a best . Saucony has caught up . New Balance , Asics , Brooks really failed in the Shoe wars , they have the Engineers that passed college exams , but were in the bottom 20% .
Really , a great engineer would be a MIT or NASA , not pencilling shoe designs .

I concur. His race kind of reminds me of Ryan Hall winning the trials in Central Park. Completely under control and never in doubt from 18 miles on.
Just for completeness, Tuliamuk gained US citizenship in 2016 through marriage.
Both Tuliamuk and Kipyego came to America on athletics scholarships.
FWIW, you don’t get to decide what’s American and what isn’t - and what are our values? I detest the current administration’s “values” - if you can call them that. Love seeing people move to our country and achieve their dreams.
I am a Hasay fan. To finish the trials knowing it was not your day. Kudos. She is a fighter. Those that demonize her here are trolls. She has been good forever and like any top-level athlete will go through challenges. You never see the best of the best diss their competitors. Only LRC wannabees.
