No, because that's what happened.

Indeed, during the pre-race interview she was talking about running as fast as 2:32 which is nuts considering she ran a 1:16 last month. She didn't go out quite that fast, but close. I'm sure the hamstring problem was real, but it was caused by going out way too fast. That's what happens when you run the first half of a marathon too hard, you start cramping up. I'm not even a Kara hater, if she went out and ran a smart 2:40 or 2:45 I wouldn't have faulted her at all. But she ran it like a complete noob despite that she's 40 and has many years of marathon running experience.
With her DNF, she couldn’t even ‘Stinson’ it.

You sure you understand the boulder market? Isn’t the median home there over $1million now?

That 1:16 wasn’t all out. It was MP pace practice
She is now a 2:25 marathoner in a 2:40 body. I am a 14 minute 5k guy in a 17:30 body. She will realize it and either go straight to celebrity jog walking or just quit.
The emails document that the Gouchers "got out" of NOP because Salazar could not deal with Adam and gave Kara an ultimatum.

I don't really buy the hamstring injury thing, but the reason doesn't really matter. She had a bad day - it happens to the best of us. But when it's the only marathon you've run in several years and you are in the public eye, it gets magnified.
I give her props for getting out there and giving it a go, knowing that she's not as fast as she used to be. That actually takes a good deal of courage.
No, she didn't have a bad day. She wasn't running 2:31-2:32. She made that pre-race claim to be "heard and seen" during the race.
***Props? She was there because she's 40 and has a new way to market herself in hopes of making money and trying to stay relevant, she's a master's runner.
***You sat in the back of the classroom and took the short yellow bus to school, didn't ya?
***As was mentioned by more than one poster, she broke 2:25 once, at Boston in 2011 with the HUGE tailwind. Otherwise her pr is 2:25:53, giving her one true effort under 2:26. Think about it, but don't strain your brain over it.
***Her World Championship medal was with a weak field, period. She was 9th a year later in Beijing and ran over a minute FASTER than her time in the World Championships. All of those runners weren't in Osaka. Not her fault in terms of who shows up for a race, but it's a fact that she ran OVER a minute faster and got 9th in Beijing.
***Take out her aided Boston race and Cragg is 4:11 faster than Goucher's fastest.
***Bottom line, her career was extremely overrated.
The Kara hate is a little strange, but kind of reminiscent of Ryan Hall just before he retired. When the greats come down to human being status simultaneously expressing their own feelings, frustrations and *gasp* opinions, a natural divide tends to take shape. I would say we need to be careful in how we label people as "arrogant," etc., based on a few sound bytes we might see circulating publicly. I've even had disputes with the Gouchers on social media, but would never in my life presume to know them really as people based on those interactions.
Okay, back to Monday, this is gunna suck.
Wow. A lot of pathetic lowlifes on this thread.

I am a woman, not a fan of Salazar or the Oregon Project by any means, and I still find Kara’s schtick annoying. I don’t really relate to her story at all, I can’t afford $80 vests (even if they’re spreading feminism or whatever) her crybaby antics don’t strike me as brave. It’s not men who have a problem with strong, successful women on here, as there is plenty of respect for Desi Linden, Shalane Flanagan, Molly Huddle, etc.
Not sure why one would need to include the word 'still' in the above post like there is some assumption that woman support other woman. That's funny as it's pretty much the opposite in this country. I would guess besides the Nike shills most of those bashing Kara on this thread are other females. I don't necessarily agree that those others listed get a lot of love on this site either. I think there was a much too long thread on how old Shalane and Deena look for their ages recently and plenty of hate when Desi voiced her displeasure for the Hanson's decision to bring on Dathan (and it wasn't due to his recent history of dropping out of marathons.)[/quote]
The original comment was in response to someone who said “these guys on here are just afraid of seeing a strong woman succeed.” So yes, it makes total sense to say that some women (myself included) “still” find Kara distasteful. I wish her well and all, hope nothing bad happens to her, I just don’t find her to be a good representation of the sport, particularly on the female side. Something about the whole “rah rah I’m so tough because I’m a WOMAN WHO RUNS” just strikes me as a cynical marketing tactic, particularly if you’re paid a lot to run in the first place and it’s your only job. Which is the same as Deena, Shalane, Molly, Desi, etc, but they actually have the careers and performances to back it up.

Dear Sir or Mam, intelligent responses are not allowed on this website.
she can run as long as she wants...there is no shelf life on running. So sick of this idea that elites need to hang up the shoes and disappear when they're most fastest days are over. Meanwhile every hobby jogger under the sun can run till their 80 and no one says a darn thing...

Isn’t that the point?— “...and no one says a darn thing”.
I think many wish KH would do the same
Gotta give Kara a thumb-up for trying. I saw her finish at the 2016 Olympic Trials Marathon. Although she only got fourth, she looked strong and fought to the end. She's not the type that gives up easily. She would not have dropped out if she wasn't injured.
Although she never got a win in a big marathon, she will always be remembered as a great distance runner. I hope her the best in whatever taking her running in a new direction means.

if she's what you consider great, then Shalane, Amy and Jordan are outstanding!!!! Kara is not in their league, not even close.

It's not a few sound bites with her. She's a very self-absorbed person. Bragging about a weak AR at New York, which got taken down, versus congratulating Flanagan without interjecting herself into the post is what she's done for well over 10 years. As mentioned, her 10,000 in 2007 W.C. was due to a weak field and 2008 proved that. She's crying for herself as victories in Boston and New York would have netted her a lot more money. But...those victories were never going to happen as she barely broke 2:26 once (Boston was due to the weather...look at the winning times for evidence).
