Eliud Kipchoge opened up to the BBC claiming that many people believed he was involved in the death of Kiptum. He stated he and his family were receiving his death threats and that he lost "90% of his friends".
LRC update. Please link to your sources. Here it is:
How do you lose 90% of your friends over a ridiculous rumor?
90 percent has got to be an exaggeration, but I don't doubt he has lost a few friends. The internet can be a very stupid place.
True, with how much dumb stuff people can put out there I'm glad to not be a celebrity in today's age. Unfortunate that Kipchoge had to go through this just because of a dumb conspiracy theory but hopefully him and his family can move past this and he's able to maintain his focus on the Olympics

Life can be a very stupid place. Herd mentality and tendency for group think might be survival-type mechanisms, but they sure cause a lot of problems when the herd picks stupid. On the other hand, these were not real friends who dumped him.
My heart broke when he got emotional talking about the call with his mother. At least he now knows how fickle fandom can be and what a cesspool Twitter is.
Kipchoge is an easy candidate for World's Nicest Guy. This is the same dude who consistently treats strangers like his best friends, invites anyone and everyone to come train with him, and who smiled politely when Galen Rupp repeatedly crowded him and clipped his heels in Tokyo.
One thing that I have noticed as I have gotten older is that genuinely super nice people attract a lot of haters. In a world where behaving like an elementary school bully has become fashionable, I am hardly surprised that Kipchoge is coming under fire for no reason.

"alleged." can we change this word in the title? makes it seem like a credible source (police etc) have accused him

I'm a big Eliud fan, but I don't understand why he didn't even name Kiptum. He said "the death of this boy".
