Jesus, almost everyone in those pics is wearing supershoes. The ten minute milers, the 70 year old farts, the 8 year old children. It's over. The shoe companies won.
You guys sound like the oldies from the early 1900's who refused to use mobile phones in their latter years as they thought they were pointless. Why would you voluntarily use shoes that put yourself at a disadvantage to the rest of your competition? Also it's not even like you can buy non-super shoe race shoes anymore, it's either wear super shoes or just wear some standard mileage trainer.

The kid leading in the last pic is in bog standard trainers. But yeah, the shoe companies won the battle back in 2020. I ran the London marathon and it seemed like a third of the entire field were wearing the brand new Alphafly 3, which costs nearly £300. Everyone else (including me) had some sort of carbon plated shoe. You see them at every low-key event now, like Parkrun. It's just the way it is these days.

It's pathetic
you can't find racing flats anymore, so what are you gonna wear? it's a race. you wear racing shoes, whether you are the best in field, or you suck. otherwise, why enter a race?

That's true. The Takumi Sen felt like the last holdout for old-style racing flats but even that's gone cushioned with energy rods now. I think ASICS might have something but there's not a lot out there anymore
The shoes are one thing, but what is more annoying is a M60 runner in long pants who puts himself in the front row among the young top runners in a mile race and slows down the fast ones after the starting signal.
