A 'hobbyjogger' runs for fun and the sheer enjoyment of it. A 'sub-elite' takes themselves far too seriously and is looking at his or her watch every 30 seconds during a run.
The threshold is 137.
Those are still hobby jogger times. This question has been asked a million times and no one will ever agree, but most would say those aren't near sub-elite.
A 4:00 mile is hardly elite anymore. I'd say like sub 4:10 is maybe sub-elite? Basically as fast as a good college kid. You can go and run a 3:59 mile and get nothing but a pat on the back and a "good job," sounds like a hobby jogger to me.
3:07 marathon
Isn’t anyone who isn’t elite, technically sub-elite?
You mean, for women? It takes 1:12 half or 2:37 marathon to get into the Olympic Trial.
USATF A standards are 4:05 for 1500m and 15:09.59 for 5000m. But the actual cutoff time is slower than that.
Marathon sub-elite should be like <2:18, maybe 2:20? Anything above that is hobbyjogger status with
<2:30 close to sub-elite
<2:45 excellent
<3:00 very respectable
<3:30 good
<4:00 decent
I'm talking about land-owning dads that are working full time with kids, not college grad rentoids working 20hrs/week with unlimited time to train.
Marathon subelite would be around 2:10 - you've still got two miles to go when the elites are crossing the finish line.
69 min for 10 mile
1:30 half
Sub-elite would be qualifying for the National Champs/Olympic Trials and finishing at the back of the pack. Hobby jogger would be qualifying for NYC Marathon or Boston Marathon.
Shouldn't that be "What is the DOUBLE threshold that separates a "hoobyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner"?
Lactate
Sub elite?
4:00
14:00
66
2:20
but, what about sub sub-elite?
None of these.
The only difference is money. If you are not getting paid for it, then you are a hobby jogger.
What is Pay and by Who?
ie...content creators paid by youtube ads, and get travel comped to certain events. I'm sure NB, Adidas, etc are covering costs for travel, and swag aint free.
Huge sarcasm on this. 🙄
Anybody who isn't earning a living wage through their running is a hobby jogger. Times don't matter.
