What distance times would a hs boy have to run senior/junior year in order to walk on at UVA?

Look through the roster and check out the high school times of the people on the team now. If you think you're at least in the ballpark, email the coach and ask what you'd need to do to get a roster spot.
15:30 5k and they may consider you
15 should be a sure thing
bump
What about 800,1600, 3200 times?
Ask the coach

No way in hell any male walks on with anywhere near a 4:26/16:10. I hope that is a joke.
Honestly, the coach doesn't like to talk to kids about walking on. I ran a good bit under both those numbers and never got my emails returned and had faster friends that didn't get responses either. I could have called or kept emailing but you need to run under either 4:20 or 9:20 as a junior then maybe you will get a sniff and get free books if you have a good year in XC as a senior.

You're insane. I ran for a rival school, PRs just a bit faster than these, and I beat all but UVAs number one or two man from my soph year on. If 4:21 and 15:50 did that, then I'd imagine your 4:26/16:10 kid would be granted a walk-on spot.

I can't imagine that's true. Some of their recruited athletes this year ran close to those times during their junior year.
Ideally, I'm wondering what a senior would have to run in order to walk on.
coach will want to see your ribs first.

My son ran 4:22 as a junior and emailed the coach a few times a couple years ago. In his email, he included his test scores and grades, which were excellent, and never got a response. He would have loved to take a visit. He ran 4:18 as a HS senior but by that point decided to go to another school even though he got in UVA. I guess it might just depend on timing and what the coach needs are that year. If you run for a team that isn't very good and runs low miles that is a big plus and the coach would accept slower times. Also some distance kids might have had a better 800 times. It might be sour grapes but I have heard he is not liked by many of his runners.
No sour grapes. UVA coaches are creepy. They are cut throat and boarder line cruel. Cant seem to develop athletes so bring in grad students and foreigners.
True but they aren’t improving as college runners. Go to one of the real running schools in the ACC. Every point scored at NCAA outdoors was from throws.

Since everyone where you live wants to go to UVA, I'm guessing you live in VA. You should go run at W&M.
W&M is a great school.
If you are near the times for being able to walk on at UVA, you can run at William and Mary. They might not give you and money but would recruit you.
The new coaches are liked by the runners and will give you attention. Only the top runners get any attention at UVA. You might develop to be in their top 7.
VT is also a good school and much better at developing their runners.
Don't run for UVA
I know a guy who ran like 4:24/9:26(?)/15:55 whos going to uva

When I looked at their website last year, I remember there being one runner whose times where a a good bit slower than the others. I guess that is they guy.
I know one of there better runners there. He gets attention but he wishes he didn't. If UVA wasn't a really good school, their team would be much worse. They do have a club team that is very active and has some runners that were very good in high school. I would recommend the club team.

Only Watson knows, but the right answer is probably sub-4:15/9:15. Most D1 programs are 4:20/9:20, but UVA is one of the better distance running programs in the country, thus more difficult standards.
My advice would be to get into UVA first, run the times above in outdoor track, then contact the coach about walking on before you make your final college choice. Your final college choice should be about the school first, obviously. Not running.
You should know that UVA has a (well earned, in my opinion) reputation for being a meat grinder. A lot of guys do well, then get injured and regress and/or quit.
VA Tech has shown much better development of its distance runners.
Go to VCU and help them establish a new tradition in the distance events. You'll be endeared and appreciated
Certified meat grinder. VaTech is actually the most impressive success story. Truely impressive Just look at the runners; what they did in HS and what they are doing now. On the flip side, ask Libby how she things are going. One of the best girls in all of VA, now missing in action. Replaced by runners 1 an 2 from down under and the UK . Best recruit is from Japan. They eat US kids alive and send the foreigner back after they have used them us. Just look at the rosters. Not much legacy.
Emma Coburn to miss Olympic Trials after breaking ankle in Suzhou
Jakob on Oly 1500- “Walk in the park if I don’t get injured or sick”
VALBY has graduated (w/ honors) from Florida, will she go to grad school??
Congrats to Kyle Merber - Merber has left Citius for position w/ Michael Johnson's track league
