Villanova's Angel Piccarillo just won her 10th Relays watch (8th since in college) in the CW 4x1500m relay. Piccarillo ran 2nd leg, while it was Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (4:11.03) who out kicked Stanford's Elise Cranny (4:12.10) for the event win.
1 Villanova 17:25.85 Bella Burda (4:34.02), Angel Piccirillo (4:17.01), Nicole Hutchinson (4:23.05), Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (4:11.03)
2 Stanford 17:27.47 Rebecca Mehra (4:33.01), Malika Waschmann (4:18.10), Christina Aragon (4:22.05), Elise Cranny (4:12.10)
Buttner has been a hero for Villanova in the relays during her career. I wonder if she could contend for an NCAA individual title in June. She was 8th in the mile indoors and her leg (which the Penn website now lists as 4:11.6) was barely off Cranny's 2017 NCAA leader of 4:11.46.
4 x 1500 must be wacky without a single handoff zone.

Any splits for Patriot HS -- second in the girls DMR?
For some reason the official results posted Thursday failed to include Patriot HS's splits, and those of Granville in 6th, and the web results on Friday at 2 p.m. have not been amended to include them.
According to the Washington Post, Rachel McArthur's anchor was the 5th fastest girls' 1600 split ever in the girls' DMR at the Penn Relays - 4:48. A rounded number is all that's given in the story.
The link to the Post:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/highschools/2017/04/27/e49dcba0-2b89-11e7-b605-33413c691853_story.html?tid=sm_tw_ps&utm_term=.aa0bb72345d3An excerpt:
"At the 123rd running of the Penn Relays on Thursday at Franklin Field, McArthur took the baton with Patriot in seventh place for the 1,600-meter anchor leg of the distance-medley relay Championship of America and passed all but one of the runners in front of her. She clocked a 4:48 1,600 split, the fastest of the race and the fifth fastest in the event’s storied history."
However, Lydia Olivere of Padua Academy in Wilmington, DE was credited with a 4:45.96 anchor, which means that she, not Rachel McArthur, had the fastest split of the race. Using the splits in the official on-line results, and if I've done my math correctly, Olivere was something like 3 secs behind McArthur at the final exchange and gained 2-plus secs on her.
But maybe Olivere's split was not reported correctly. I don't know.
Newspaper accuracy seems to be at it's worst these days, but clearly Rachel McArthur's run was exceptional, on the track where she will represent Villanova in future Penn Relays. And a big wow to Lydia Olivere, too.
Assuming they've got great weather. Wonder what the NBCSN broadcast will carry from 5:30 - 6:30pm to his evening? Highlights from the first 2 days? Will Sydney's leg be one of the main storylines? A preview of Saturday's action? Or just a live call of those events in that time slot? (not likely as there is at most 2 events 'worth' showing)
The NBCSN will be a live slot.

I just watched the replay of the girls' DMR from Thursday, and the announcer gave Rachel McArthur's anchor split at 4:44.80, and the Padua girl's split at 4:45. So, if the announcer is to be believed, then the Washington Post was off by, oh, a mere 3.2 seconds in its reporting of Rachel's split! It apparently was the fastest split.
Yeah Washington Post article split was definitely a typo. Rachel McArthur actually ran 4:44.8 split.
McArthur got the baton behind Padua's Olivere by a few seconds on anchor and passed her in the final 200m of the race. McArthur went 67-2:21-3:34-4:44 for her splits.
Her teammates splits before her were 3:47 1200 leg, 58-59 400 leg, 2:20 800 leg. North Rockland consistently had 13-15 second lead on Patriot before the McArthur anchor. Probably could have a gone out harder in first 800 for a faster split if thought had a real shot to win, but gap was too big by time she got the baton.
Interesting to note that the North Rockland opening leg Alex Harris (ran 3:32 1200 split to get her team out in lead) will also be joining McArthur at Villanova next fall.
Oregon wiins DMR without King Ches.

Can someone tell me why in the middle of the DMR, so far I haven't heard a single thing about "This runner has the best pb." You think they would tell you who is expected to do well on both the 800 and 1500s.
Ok. Now, I'm finally getting it. There we ego.
Sydney M just ran 50.37.

she is from villanova; her season ends on saturday
What did the interviewer mean when she said to the PSU SMR team: "you guys are trying to take the baton home with you!"
Is that an expression? Don't teams usually provide (and thus take home with them) the baton?

No. She looked amazing this weekend.
She got the stick right behind Cranny and blew her away. Yesterday, she blew up open the DMR 500 meters into the 800 leg.
