So, let me get this straight. You're happy that Americans are going to lose their jobs? You want corporations to amass wealth by cutting jobs while workers struggle to feed and cloth their kids? You must be a DemonRat that hard God, America, and apple pie.

Nobody asked them to have kids to "cloth" before they gained the skills necessary to make money.
Always remember, a huge increase in minimum wage has absolutely no effect on the economy, on hiring, on employment, on anything. None whatsoever. Zilch.
I hope they lose their jobs. Now they can do something more useful with their time (e.g. leisure).

Agree. The wage slavery of trading labour for money has run its course.
Big deal. Fast Food joints in the Orient did that 40 years ago.

This isn't a response to $15/hr (it was already happening), just as grocery store kiosks weren't a response to outrageous minimum wages.
Self driving vehicles are going to replace ~ 6 million truck driving jobs, and that is just a taste of what's to come.
Cashiers are the #2 job in the U.S.
We should focus more on that than manufacturing if we want the jobs report to look good.
Personal interaction is a part of customer service.
That being said, I could probably work the kiosk better than many employees and get my order right.

This is the biggest issue. It's amazing how often people working these jobs screw stuff up. They don't listen, for one thing, don't care, etc. I would much rather type my order in (or check myself out) than deal with the crap service you get from most minimum wage employees.
Automation is going to replace a LOT of low wage jobs in the not-so-distant future.
We are going to have to figure out how to deal with that.

Create more hedge fund manager jobs, and don't discriminate.

Yes, because companies are in business to provide people with jobs. Have you ever actually owned a business?
At the end of the day it's up to individuals to acquire the skills they need to provide for themselves. Corporations are not welfare institutions that exist to keep people employed.

That's why I go to fast food places - to interact with the friendly people taking my order.
You can't completely replace cashiers. What about the blind and the deaf customers who can't read/hear the kiosk instructions?
In Oregon, we aren't allowed to pump our own gas. How is that progress?

Capitalism and innovation will always displace some people, but overall it adds value to the economy. It has since the industrial revolution. The most nimble, innovative, and hard working will succeed. But there will always be those who don't. The alternative is communism.

.
the self-service kiosk will be short lived as the transition to smartphone ordering is already underway.
The electronic world is here.
Kiosk and smartphone ordering is already taking place. At Starbucks, I always just order from my phone and pick it up. These automations are not from minimum wage increase. Companies are always looking for ways to automate. Why have a job where a machine can do it? Hire the person for some other work. If you can't get hired, work harder. Damn, quit bitchin and get back to work!
